Supermarket Sweet

Finally, a camera, and a person to take my photo with it. Unfortunately that person is my darling husband, and while his skills are rich and varied, they do not include photography. Look at the Testino-esque way he’s captured the full flabbiness of my thighs…

I wore this outfit for a big Easter shop at Sainsburys, and my followers on Twitter (if you want to be one head to the left of the screen…) will have seen my tweet about the fab bargain I found there. I have been looking for a white broderie anglaise top since time immemorial but I usually find them too twee, too expensive or too polyester. But call off the dogs, the search is OVAH! I found my holy grail broderie top, and it cost me £13.50!

This is a snap of the mint version, because I love the colour (it doesn’t love me back, I look like I’m on the donor list for a liver) and of all the colours the detail shows best on the mint. The top is available in white, mint, lilac and black and usually costs £18, but TU is 25% off at the moment. I’m seriously thinking I’ll go back for the black, as that price for pure cotton is awesome. I love the scalloped detail at the bottom, and I think the addition of the pocket keeps it looking fresh and not too Little House on the Prairie.

And here I am wearing my white version:

016

I can’t wait to wear it with cropped jeans and neon sandals if this weather ever bloody cheers up!

Never say that this blog doesn’t offer something for a range of budgets – but they’re going fast, I got the last 8 at my local branch, and apart from one 10 there were only 16 and up in the white, and tediously I can’t find them on the website, so if you want one I suggest going sooner rather than later!

Good Friday Lust List – The Dressing Room

Morning everyone, I hope you’ve all got fab four-day weekends planned!

Yesterday marked the launch of The Dressing Room’s Denim Dedication month, which is all about finding your perfect pair of jeans. If you want to read more, check out their blog, and look out for #DenimDedication on Twitter, as they are running some great features and competitions!

So, in honour of Denim Dedication month, I thought I’d compile a special Lust List featuring some of their great denim range…

It’s been all about skinnies for years now, but the humble bootcut is beginning to creep back into the fashion consciousness, and I have it on good authority that there is none more flattering that the Hudson Beth:

Hudson Beth Baby Bootcut - £205

Hudson Beth Baby Bootcut – £205

This style is called a ‘baby’ bootcut, as they flare out very subtly, gently balancing the silhouette without that awful flappy effect I remember so well from the early Noughties! I’d pair these with a slinky blouse and animal print flats.

Twist & Tango Joss Blouse - £57

Just BallerinasPony Maculato Pump - Leopard - £149

Just Ballerinas
Pony Maculato Pump – Leopard – £149

Another style which is big news for S/S13 is the Boyfriend. These can be tricky if, like me, you can have more generous hips and thighs – the aim is not to actually look like your boyfriend, so this pair of Current/Elliott Slouchy Stilettos are ideal.

Current/Elliott The Slouchy Stiletto - £225

Current/Elliott The Slouchy Stiletto – £225

A slightly more relaxed version of their bestselling Stiletto style, they give the boyfriend effect without swamping your curves – fab! I’d wear these jeans with a short sleeved sweat and wedge trainers:

American Vintage Prairie State Sweater - £64

American Vintage Prairie State Sweater – £64

Ash Bowie Canvas and Suede Wedge Trainer - £149

Evert girl needs a pair of cropped denims in her summer wardrobe, and this pair from Paige are just the ticket:

Paige Kylie Crop - £199

For a chic summer look, I’d pair these jeans with a slubby silk knit and chunky platforms:

American Vintage Kin Silk Pullover - £141

Ash Diana Tibet Sandal - £175

The white jean has long been a traditional summer staple, but for something a little different why not try this fresh minty pair from 7 For All Mankind?

7 For All MankindHigh Waisted Skinny Jeans - £200

7 For All Mankind
High Waisted Skinny Jeans – £200

I love a high waisted skinny – so flattering and comfortable, and great for running after the nippers without the risk of flashing my pants! I’d wear these with a botanical print tee and slipper flats:

American Retro Jelly Tee - £137

American Retro Jelly Tee – £137

H By Hudson Bolero Shoe - £100

Last on my list is the denim holy grail – the classic indigo skinny:

J Brand811 Mid Rise Skinny Leg Jeans - £189

J Brand
811 Mid Rise Skinny Leg Jeans – £189

This 811 style from J Brand is fantastic; I have three pairs in various bright colours. The mid-rise is flattering and practical and this deep indigo wash will be so slimming. A must buy! I’d wear them with a bright tee and statement heels:

Pyrus Dona Cutwork Tee - £110

To be honest, this list could have been a lot longer, as The Dressing Room carry such a great selection of denim, but there are Easter nest cakes to be made and eaten, so I’d better sign off!

Happy Easter all!

Making a statement

Look at me, pretending it’s summer again. To be fair the sun was shining when I left the house this morning and it was only -1.

Now, you know by now that I like a bargain, and in my own way I am semi-frugal (mainly buying in sales/eBay/with discount) but at the start of every season something pops up and I know I have to get it. This 3.1 Phillip Lim tank is a case in point – I loved it on the catwalk:

20130328-110055.jpg
So when it popped up on Matches I snapped it up, and good thing I did as the black version has now sold out (grey still available here). I know it’s a lot to spend on what is essentially a vest, but I do love a statement tee and will get a lot of wear out of it; tucked into a pencil skirt, with leather leggings, even slung over a bikini on holiday!

Anyway, here I am wearing today with my good ol’ Goldsigns and Pistols. I’m also wearing my Next jersey biker and Chan Luu scarf (my office ain’t that warm), but for the purposes of the photo I shed them.

20130328-110437.jpg
Sadly it doesn’t look quite as nice on me as on the 6ft, 6 stone model, but I like it anyway!

I’m off out for drinks after work tonight so I’ll swap the Pistols for Louboutins and add bright red lippy to de-grungeify!

Wednesday Want

I’m one of those irritatingly delicate little souls who can’t really wear high street jewellery, as it brings me out in a nasty rash if it isn’t plated with precious metal.

This leaves me with a bit of an issue finding attractive, affordable jewellery. I have posted on here about my Etsy finds, which have been brilliant, but as the sellers tend to be in far flung parts delivery times do tend to be loooooong, and I’m an instant gratification kinda gal!

So imagine my delight when I found lovely, affordable, precious metal played jewellery that would arrive within a couple of days!

Step forward Lily King and take a bow. A lovely site, full of beautiful pieces. I ordered this Gold Coin necklace on Sunday, while half-supervising the kids at the seventh level of soft play, and it arrived (beautifully packaged) yesterday.

20130327-134138.jpgI am really pleased with it – pretty and delicate, perfect for layering with other necklaces or wearing alone.

So on to my Wednesday want; after the success of my last order I’m now lusting after this Silver Wishbone necklace:

20130327-134403.jpgHow pretty? The perfect pre-payday pick-me-up!

And even better, there’s free shipping on orders over £20 with the code FREESHIP. Well, what are you waiting for?

Leopard Love

Introducing my new favourite shoes…

20130326-104108.jpgI have blogged about Charles Philip Shanghai slippers before. I’ve admired the beautiful shoes since I discovered the brand about 6 months ago, and now I finally have a pair! I’ve kept the rest of my outfit simple as I wanted the shoes to do the talking today, but expect to see them featuring in print-clash combos very soon.

Monday Morning Lust List – Warehouse

Morning all!

Ah, only four days to struggle through this week before the chocolate orgy can commence. Let joy be unconfined!

Anyway, on to more important matters than the resurrection; the Lust List, this week coming to you from Warehouse. Did you pick up a Grazia this week? If so, you’ll find a handy little 25% off voucher at the back, which you may want to use on some of the following…

First up is this Hi Low Maxi Dress:

Hi Low Maxi Dress - £26

Hi Low Maxi Dress – £26

It’s a controversial subject but I’m quite a fan of the mullet hem, and I like this crossover style. I have a Helumt Lang maxi skirt which is similar and gets a lot of wear. I also love the slight cutaway at the shoulders – very flattering. I’d wear this dress very simply, with flat neon sandals on a hot, sunny day (I know, I’ve got a long memory). Also available in grey.

Embroidered Side Jean - £48

Embroidered Side Jean – £48

I really like the monochrome side detailing on these skinnies; perfect for adding interest to an otherwise very simple outfit. I would probably style these in much the same way as shown in the picture – a simple tank and ankle boots, and maybe throw on a leather biker.

Black Western Floral Cutwork Top - £38

Black Western Floral Cutwork Top – £38

Can you believe that this top isn’t Marant? I just adore the bright embroidery detail at the neckline. I don’t have the legs for shorts, so I’d probably wear this top with white or vintaged skinnies. Gorgeous!

Fantasy Landscape Biker Shirt - £48

Fantasy Landscape Biker Shirt – £48

As you might have gathered, I’m quite a fan of an asymmetric zip detail, so this top is right up my street. They have it in quite a few plain colours, but I actually really like this print. Again, I wouldn’t change much of the styling, but I’d probably swap the ankle strap heels for pointy courts.

Quilted Biker Jacket - £55

Quilted Biker Jacket – £55

If you like all the quilted jackets out there at the moment, but find the prints a bit much then this might just be for you. It’s almost like a simplified version of my Next biker.

Blue Textured Stripe Drape Jacket - £70

Blue Textured Stripe Drape Jacket – £70

This jacket is not at all my usual style, but I was really taken by it. I like the muted blues in the pattern – great with denim or khaki.

Blue Sporty Mix Jumpsuit - £50

Blue Sporty Mix Jumpsuit – £50

I’ve yet to find a jumpsuit which doesn’t make me look like I’m about to change a fan belt, and I’ve no reason to believe this one would be any different, but I love it anyway. I might have to try it on to see how it scores on the Phil-Mitchell-o-meter…

Blue Deck Chair Stripe Scarf - £20

Blue Deck Chair Stripe Scarf – £20

Warehouse always gives good scarf, and this stripy number is a dead ringer for a MaxMara number I had my eye on last summer. This would look gorgeous with a white cotton blouse and grey skinnies.

Brown Talamanca Sandal - £24

Brown Talamanca Sandal – £24

And finally, ending with a spot of footwear. Imagining these lovely snake print sandals on tanned feet makes me want to cry a bit at the moment, ensconced as I am in thermal socks and high tops. Please let the temperatures rise soon! Great value for 100% leather, snap them up before they go!

Hopefully today’s lust list hasn’t left you shivering! As ever, please do post your comments – I love to hear what you think of my picks.

Defiant dressing

I know we’re all bored of talking about the weather but, really, it’s getting beyond a joke now. I’m so bored of wearing the same set of jeans, jumpers and scarves I can’t even say. So today I thought ‘bugger it’ and went to the summer dress section of my wardrobe.

20130324-145007.jpgNow, I probably look mental, but I really don’t care, it’s refreshing to be wearing something from my S/S wardrobe!
