Monday Morning Lust List – Gap

So, how was your Easter? Mine was spent lamenting the utter deficit of attractive footwear that keeps your feet warm, whilst I traipsed, blue-toed, around various zoos, farms and parks. Still, hopefully I have accrued enough brownie points doing this to slope off to the shops for a bit today to look at more sandals I will NEVER WEAR.

This morning’s Lust List comes to you curtesy of Gap. I have been really impressed with their output over the last few seasons; gorgeous bright colours in great staple shapes with plenty of neon thrown in, and the accessories have also been fabulous. And guess what? For today only there is 20% off all full priced styles when you enter GAPSTYLE at checkout.

I genuinely believe there is no easier, chicer summer throw-on than a Breton striped dress, and I love this navy and green version:

Harbor jersey roll-sleeve striped dress - £34.99

It also comes in the more traditional white/navy stripe, but I like the more unusual colour choice. It’s a good length too, short without getting you nicked when you bend over to retrieve a dropped toy.

I love the range of fitted boyfriend shirts Gap has out at the moment, in an array of lovely brights, cute ginghams and quirky prints. While I find a more masculine shape suits my body type, it can be a tricky trend to wear without looking like a shotputter. However, I’m definitely going to try one of these…

Shrunken boyfriend printed shirt - £29.99

The grown-up way to do Hawaiian print (if that isn’t a total oxymoron), I think the bright florals are great for the summer I keep imagining. I’d wear this with rolled up chinos and metallic sandals.

The reality is, when summer does finally arrive for a week at the end of August, I’ll just be swapping my thick cashmere jumpers for a lighter, cotton version.

Mesh-sleeve sweater - £24.99

Mesh-sleeve sweater – £24.99

What I really like about Gap is that unlike a lot of retailers, they are not overly reliant on man-made fibres. I bought a smiliar sweater to this from a mid-range designer at 6 times the price, assuming it would be cotton. More fool me, it was 100% viscose and has bobbled hideously after only a couple of wears. This Gap one actually is 100% cotton and looks great. It also comes in cobalt, red, navy and, I think, grey, though I can’t see it online. I’d sling this on with boyfriend jeans and a pair of Superga pumps for a relaxed off-duty look.

By now you’ll have gathered that cobalt is my absolute favourite colour, so this trench is perfect for me:

Trench coat - £59.99

Trench coat – £59.99

It also comes in the more classic navy and beige, for those of you who draw the line at lurid coats, but I love the incongrous juxtapostion of uber-classic style with a very modern bright. I’d wear this over a simple black shift for work.

If you still haven’t found your perfect Boyfriend jeans, this pair might just be for you:

1969 sexy boyfriend jeans - £39.99

1969 sexy boyfriend jeans – £39.99

Gap introduced their ‘sexy boyfriend’ style a few seasons ago, and they acheive the near impossible; good slouch without swamping. This vintage wash is great for summer, and in my fantasies I’d be wearing these with just a white vest and Converse high tops.

I’ve been deliberating over getting a pair of printed trousers for a while now, and these could be the ones:

Slim cropped print pants - £34.99

Slim cropped print pants – £34.99

I love the fresh green and geometric pattern, and historically I’ve always found trousers from Gap to be very good. Primarily cotton, with that all important bit of elastane for stretch, I reckon these will be a great fit. I’d wear these with a white tee, black blazer and black pointy courts for a sharp work look.

Another one of  the ‘holy grail’ items on my permanent shopping list is a denim shirt dress that doesn’t make me look, as my husband so charmingly puts it, like a farmer.

1969 western dress - £44.99

1969 western dress – £44.99

Could this be ‘The One?’ I’m certainly going to try it to find out!

Let’s move on to accessories now, and how about this for a bargain?

Leather tassel clutch - £19.99

Leather tassel clutch – £19.99

A leather clutch for under £20? Don’t mind if I do! Perfect for summer drinks, it would look lovely with a simple column maxi and jewelled flats.

I spotted this lovely pair of sandals in a magazine last week and have subsequently become obsessed with them.

Strappy sandals - £24.99

Strappy sandals – £24.99

I love the blue/grey tones in them – they’d be perfect with white jeans and a hot pink silk tee.

And finally, how about something you might actually be able to use this summer…?

Printed umbrella - £14.95

Printed umbrella – £14.95

If there is one thing on this list I can GUARANTEE you’ll be sporting for S/S13 it’s this! I love the cute bug print on this umbrella – makes a nice change from black!

I’ll definitely be trying the green print trousers, boyfriend shirt and western dress if I can find them in store – I will report back! What, if anything, do you fancy from Gap this season?

Hope you all enjoy the last day of the long weekend!

  1. This blog is costing me a fortune!!!! Yesterday I got the sainsburys top and today it’s the gap mesh top. I got it in navy and it was 40% off so I got it for £15.

    • Wow, what a bargain! They have really good offers in store at the moment. Glad you like the clothes and sorry about your bank balance – it can’t be as pitiful as mine at the moment though! 🙂

  2. Hi Amber, just tried GAPSTYLE moments ago at the checkout..its a no-go. Have put in block capitals all one word but it is telling me its not a valid promo code..have you used? the site is awful tonight, I have been booted out after being unable to verify my card. Need…to…shop!!!!!!!

    • Oh no, how odd – this morning it was displaying in a banner on the site but now it has vanished!

If you sign up for email you will get a 15% code to use, otherwise maybe a call to CS might be an idea – Gap are usually really good from that perspective. I believe there are some really good discounts in store at the moment too, so if you can get to one it might be worth a try?

So sorry the code isn’t working – I hate to disappoint!

  3. Don’t worry, i’ve made the purchase now without a discount. I need some new
boyfriend jeans and I will not be stopped! will sign up for the email alerts.

    • Oh great, definitely worth signing up for the alerts, the 30% vouchers that do the rounds are great! Enjoy your boyfriends!
