7 days, one skirt

This weekend I took the opportunity to escape into Topshop while Mr TMT was being press-ganged into coughing up a couple of quid for one of those extortionate, low octane rides in the shopping centre. I originally popped in to have a look at this striped dress but it wasn’t for me; lovely, but cream rather than white, which made me look like the drink had finally caught up worth my liver (surely going to happen one day).
IMG_3177All was not lost however, when I spotted this skirt:

IMG_3176When Mr TMT joined me in the queue to pay he remarked ‘if I could have picked the one item in this shop you’d buy, it’d be that’. He knows me so well. Anyway, I was waxing lyrical about how this skirt would solve ALL my wardrobe woes and how I’d wear it every day. Being the wise man he is, and privy over the years to many such episodes of fantastical nonsense, he merely raised an eyebrow, but it got me thinking; ‘could I really wear it every day?’ Not for the rest of my life, you understand. That would be skanky. Just a week. So for the next 7 days, I will be wearing my shiny new skirt and thinking of different ways to wear it. My week includes a press day, a night out, lunch with a friend and a date night with the old ball and chain. Can I make it work for all of those occasions? I will post my outfit everyday and you folks can be the judge. Today I had to take my first-born to hospital for his first blood test, which I felt a little apprehensive about. As it turned out, he was the bravest of the brave and didn’t even whimper, so all’s well that ends well. Even so, I wore a ‘happy outfit’ to lift my spirits.

Outfit:

Jumper – Boden

Skirt – Topshop

Boots – Jack Wills

Bag – Charlotte Simone

Little note about the bag: I recently bought this Charlotte Simone Bon Bon bag and I think it may honestly be the best thing I’ve ever bought. Completely frivolous and impractical, it has pride of place hanging on my wardrobe door, as it makes me smile every time I see it. Better than Valium, though sadly not available on the NHS.

Flat Out

I’ve been neglecting this blog of late – life has been a bit hectic, but never fear I’ll be back soon with my quest for a holiday wardrobe.

Anyway, I had a request from a lovely lady to show how I wear my Boden silver pointy flats with a pencil skirt, so here I am doing just that.

20140501-195832.jpg

Outfit:

Top – Whistles
Skirt – Jaeger
Shoes – Boden
Necklace – Next

I’ve gone for a classic stripes and lace combo here, keeping the palette monochrome with just a hint of colour in the necklace to let the shoes stand out.

I know a lot of people think the shoe natural partner for a pencil skirt is a heel but I think, especially in the case of a tighter tube style skirt, the flats help to tone the look down and stop a tight skirt from being overtly sexy (not always business appropriate, depending on your profession).

What do you think – pencil skirts and flats, hit or miss?

On my wishlist

Don’t worry it’s not all technical wicking fabrics chez Nectarine, though I won’t deny these have featured heavily in my shopping bags of late, I’m still as covetous as ever. Here is a round up of my Spring wishlist:

First of all I need a new Breton top. Let me tell you it is the DEVIL’S WORK finding one with a white background (not Ecru, Stone or Ivory). I quite like the look of this little Boden bad boy though ignores description navy/ivory.

On a similar theme is this Boden tunic, which shortarse here would wear as a dress. Will order to try and cross my fingers that it covers my cellulite.
20140307-105053.jpg
As the sun shone for about 20 minutes this week, my thoughts turned to sandals. I really shouldn’t wear yellow as it does me NO favours but it’s such a happy colour that I can live with the prospect of jaundiced feet.
20140307-105311.jpgAlso a happy colour is this Jaeger bag. This has popped up on a few blogs now and I just love it, the perfect antidote to those winter navys, greys and blacks.
20140307-112857.jpg
This T-shirt is wonderfully silly – I love pineapples, so this would be a cute addition to my casual wardrobe.
20140307-113138.jpg
I’m sure I’ve mentioned my perennial quest for a denim shirt dress. I’ve wanted one for ^years^ now, but never found one that didn’t make me look like a middle-aged farm hand. You may have think I’d have taken the hint by now. You’d be wrong. This Next one has had rave reviews so I should at least try it, right?
20140307-113555.jpg
Back on safer ground, these Carvela skate flats are right up my avenue, so to speak. And Kurt Geiger currently have 25% off with code KGMARCH25. Rude not to.

So, that’s what I’m after – what’s tickling your fancy at the moment. Do tell – you can comment below or hit me up on Twitter!

Boden Bargains!

My love of Boden is well documented on this blog. I recently had my personal style analysed (more on this to come) and it turns out Boden is a great place for me to shop. Hooray!

Anyway, I just wanted to flag the fact that they have some great deals in the clearance section of their website, where selected items currently have up to 80% off.

20140214-103350.jpgI ordered this cashmere crew neck for a ridiculous £23.80. Amazing!

Check it out and see what gems you find!

Monday Evening Lust List – Boden

Been a while since I’ve done one of these hasn’t it? Well, I think I’m pretty much done with the sales now (post coming on all my bargains) and ready to embrace the new season.

Back in November, I attended the Boden SS14 press day at Somerset House.

It was a riot of colour and gorgeous sorbet shades which could not have seemed more attractive on that rainy, glum winter’s day.

So, without further ado, here are my favourite styles of the season:

20140113-085214.jpg

Cashmere Crew Neck Jumper – £99

I must confess that this jumper is already sitting pretty in my wardrobe. A cashmere crew neck is a vital wardrobe staple and Boden have issued this style in 14 shades for the new season. I was very tempted by the lilac but plumped for the pink as it is better for my skin tone. The quality is great, though I did size up to a 12 as I prefer a slightly slouchier fit. It will be great for keeping me warm but feeling bright and springy through the remaining winter months.

20140113-090025.jpg

Chelsea Slingbacks – £99

I have often waxed lyrical about Boden footwear styles and this season is no exception. I love these gold slingbacks – I think they’d be great with charcoal slim leg trousers and a white shirt to jazz up my workwear.

20140113-091047.jpg

Cotswold Weekend Top – £49

I don’t normally go a bundle on the more boho styles, but I was really taken by this top at the press day. The addition of the neon embroidery makes it seem a little fresher than your average smock top. I’m seeing it with distressed denim and simple flat sandals.

20140113-091939.jpg

Wool Bistro Crop – £89

I really love these trousers, but with my thighs being my ‘trouble-zone’, I’m not sure if I could pull them off. If I was leaner of leg, however, I’d wear them with a silver-grey sweater and silver flats.

20140113-092220.jpg

Pointed Slingbacks – £69

Speaking of silver flats, these are another new addition to my wardrobe. I have last summer’s orange version which I wore to death, so these seemed a logical investment. I love metallic footwear and they will go with so much.

20140113-092353.jpg

Sophie Lace Top – £59

I’m so tempted by this lace top. I think it would look so lovely with the silver flats and a pair of boyfriend jeans. The pretty pink is so refreshing after a winter of navy and grey.

20140113-092532.jpg

Modern Stripy Top – £35

A variation on the more conventional Breton tee, I love the bold striped on this top. I’d team this with indigo skinnies and the gold kitten heel slingbacks.

20140113-092818.jpg

Mosaic Statement Necklace – £59

And wouldn’t this fabulous statement necklace be the perfect finishing touch to that outfit? I love the mix of brights!

20140113-092959.jpg

Mya Bag – £99

Loving a bit of matchy-matchy is my secret shame, but I’m really taken by the idea of this gold bag worn with those slingbacks and a simple grey marl sweat and ripped jeans. I’ve already got a gold bag so I really cannot justify this, but I do LOVE it. I don’t have a pair of gold shoes though….

What do you think of the Boden S/S14 collection? As ever, I love receiving your comments, tweets etc so do drop me a line!

I’m bored

So, I’m bored with ‘The Challenge’. Not the saving or wearing different outfits daily, I’m getting on swimmingly with that – more the oppression of trying to blog it every single day.

The reality is that I am just too busy in my work and home life and actually I feel that I could be offering much more interesting content on the blog, so I thing a return to form is order. I’ll still be posting outfit shots, but probably not daily, and I’ll be bringing back the Lust List, Review and Trend posts. If there are any strong objections do let me know, but I am so immensely tired of seeing photos in myself in the same pose that I’m sure you must be too!!

Anyway, here a couple of those photos from the past week:

20130914-080153.jpg

Outfit:

Cardigan – Boden
Top – Majestic
Jeans – Topshop
Scarf – Maje
Boots – Aldo

One of my favourite trends for this season is Grunge, mainly because I was doing it anyway. Basically stick on a bit of plaid and some biker boots and you’re good to go!

20130914-080220.jpg

Outfit:

Dress – Laura Ashley
Tights – Falke
Shoes – Michael Kors

A new acquisition here, bought with my voucher from the Laura Ashley press day. I absolutely LOVE this dress. You can’t really see but the pattern is a sort of mock-croc print and the burgundy colour is delicious. It is also probably the most comfortable dress I have ever worn in my life. They are currently running a 25% off event, which I highly recommend you check out, as they’ve had a great season.

20130914-080227.jpg

Outfit:

Jumper – Gap
Skirt – M&S
Tights – Falke
Shoes – Boden
Necklace – Alex Monroe

The necklace is sort of new. I received it as a wedding anniversary gift last year, but lost it within a few months, which I was very sad about. My lovely husband has repeat bought it for my this year which was sweet of him. I promise not to lose this one!

20130914-080240.jpg

Crikey, I look about 108 in these photos! Luckily I have 2 weeks off now to recover from what has been a very stressful phase of my professional life. Expect a shiny, happy, chilled out blogger from now on!

C150 – Day 44 – 47

Day 44

20130908-190906.jpg

Outfit:

Shirt – Diesel via TK Maxx
Trousers – Gerard Darel
Shoes – Boden

One of my favourite and oft used combinations here; monochrome with a touch of bright. Very easy to put together when I’m fumbling around blindly in my wardrobe at 5.30am.

Day 45

20130908-191247.jpg

Outfit:

Dress – Damsel in a Dress
Shoes – Banana Republic

I blogged about this dress aaaages ago, but, like a magpie, promptly got distracted by something shiny and forgot to order it, remembering only when it had sold out. eBay searches had proved fruitless when by chance, on a rare day off with my very dear husband, I clocked it on the rails in TK Maxx. I didn’t buy it due to the spending ban, but Mr TMT sneakily got it for me. Well done, that man. Probably helps that it’s slinky. Had it been harem pants they’d be languishing still.

Day 46

20130908-191659.jpg

Outfit:

Sweatshirt – Gap
Vest – Rosemunde c/o The Dressing Room
Jeans – Goldsign
Boots – Aldo

Very casual for a day spent doing not much at all with the littl’uns. I’m so glad biker boots are back in vogue, as I adore this Aldo pair. I bought them a few weeks after I had my youngest and they’ve proved an excellent buy. The leather has softened a treat and they are so comfortable. This pair are similar and look gorgeous.

Day 47

20130908-192352.jpg

Outfit:

Vest – Rosemunde c/o The Dressing Room
Leather trousers – Freda at Matches
Shoes – M&S via Ebay

A very rare evening out look! It is out wedding anniversary this week so we capitalised on my mother-in-law visiting and took the opportunity to slope off for wine and tapas. I wore my gorgeous new vest top (more on this in a separate post tomorrow – look out for a discount code) and my faithful leather trousers. I got these in the January sales for about £150, reduced from £500+ and they are just the most delicious, buttery soft leather. I loved this outfit and so did Mr TMT, so everyone was happy!

And the moment you’ve all been waiting for…the bag of the week:

20130908-193743.jpg
There are two reasons why I love this 3.1 Phillip Lim 31 hour tote: 1. The simplicity and 2. The colour. Absolutely sublime.
