Off the grid

When I went to the Laura Ashley SS14 press day on the wettest November day EVER, it’s safe to say Spring wasn’t really on my mind. However, as the mercury has risen (incrementally), I’ve found my eye drawn to some lighter pieces. Now let’s not go nuts here, it’s still pretty brisk, but today I felt able to swap my cashmere knits for this fabulous cotton intarsia knit. I liked it so much back at the press day I actually named it best in show, so I lined I had to have it! Geometric prints are ^everywhere^ at the moment, but I love the hint of red livening up the simple windowpane design.

This jumper is really well finished and a lovely weight, and being cotton I can see it becoming a year-round favourite.

And here I am modelling it. I’ve teamed it with simple navy trousers and burgundy courts, with a perky hit of bright green to remind me Spring is on the way.

Sunday Night Fantasy Shopping

So, I’ll tell you one upside of being virtually bedridden for weeks: you save a shed load of money. I’m well ahead of target on the bag fund, which is great, but there are some little temptresses out there tickling my fancy, let me tell you! Here are a couple on my radar this week:

Oh, how I love the Gucci Disco bag. Even the name is fabulous. This bag is just a little slice of 70s deliciousness and I want it in my life. Obviously I will have to employ a butler to carry everything besides my keys, phone and credit card which is all I’ll fit in here, but that’s just doing my bit for the service industry.

Another option would be to ‘double bag’, and as back-up totes go, they don’t get much lovelier than the Michael Kors Jet Set. I already have one of these in white (I call it my Eurotrash bag), but they have made it in sumptuous grey and luxurious burgundy for the winter. How can I say no?

Yum. Seen any bags I should know about. It ain’t over till my husband winces as I hand over my card, so do let me know!

I’m bored

So, I’m bored with ‘The Challenge’. Not the saving or wearing different outfits daily, I’m getting on swimmingly with that – more the oppression of trying to blog it every single day.

The reality is that I am just too busy in my work and home life and actually I feel that I could be offering much more interesting content on the blog, so I thing a return to form is order. I’ll still be posting outfit shots, but probably not daily, and I’ll be bringing back the Lust List, Review and Trend posts. If there are any strong objections do let me know, but I am so immensely tired of seeing photos in myself in the same pose that I’m sure you must be too!!

Anyway, here a couple of those photos from the past week:

Cardigan – Boden
Top – Majestic
Jeans – Topshop
Scarf – Maje
Boots – Aldo

One of my favourite trends for this season is Grunge, mainly because I was doing it anyway. Basically stick on a bit of plaid and some biker boots and you’re good to go!

Dress – Laura Ashley
Tights – Falke
Shoes – Michael Kors

A new acquisition here, bought with my voucher from the Laura Ashley press day. I absolutely LOVE this dress. You can’t really see but the pattern is a sort of mock-croc print and the burgundy colour is delicious. It is also probably the most comfortable dress I have ever worn in my life. They are currently running a 25% off event, which I highly recommend you check out, as they’ve had a great season.

Jumper – Gap
Skirt – M&S
Tights – Falke
Shoes – Boden
Necklace – Alex Monroe

The necklace is sort of new. I received it as a wedding anniversary gift last year, but lost it within a few months, which I was very sad about. My lovely husband has repeat bought it for my this year which was sweet of him. I promise not to lose this one!

Crikey, I look about 108 in these photos! Luckily I have 2 weeks off now to recover from what has been a very stressful phase of my professional life. Expect a shiny, happy, chilled out blogger from now on!

C150 – Day 30 & 31

So I’ve officially made it a month. Just under four to go, and actually, the last month has flown by, so hopefully the next four will do the same and I’ll find myself standing in the Harvey Nichols accessories hall in the blink of an eye!

Day 30
I know navy and black can be a contentious colour combo but I really love it. I planned this outfit around my Jimmy Choos, which I am still besotted with (though they could do with a stroke of the suede brush)!

Trousers – Gerard Darel

Day 31

20130822-195810.jpgAnother of my favourites here. My lovely husband bought me this beauty of a skirt for Christmas and I’ve not really worn it over the summer, given its slightly dark and moody nature, but I’m very glad to be bringing it out as the seasons change.

Skirt – McQ

P.S. apologies for skanky mirror

C150 – Day 22 – 27

Heartfelt apologies, dear readers, for my lack of commitment. I have had a crazy couple of weeks, but I think I’ve got my shit together now. We’ll see. Anyway, you don’t want to hear about all that bobbins, you want to know what I’ve been wearing!

Day 22

Top – DVF
Trousers – Gap
Shoes – Michael Kors

This top was a sample sale bargain and I just love it. I don’t wear it often enough really – must make more effort to give it the airing it deserves. The shoes are Michael Kors ‘Flex’ pumps and are just the comfiest ever. They pop up every season in different colours and frequently appear on the Outnet at great prices – highly recommend them!

Day 23

Shirt – Equipment
Skirt – Gerard Darel
Shoes – Boden

You remember the saga of this shirt, don’t you? Well worth a very painful trip to acquire it with my newly operated on hand (you can expect the return of the grubby bandage soon as it needs redoing), as it makes me smile every time I catch sight of it!

Day 24

Dress – LK Bennett
Shoes – Vince Camuto

A rare glimpse of business-appropriate Amber here – I very rarely do the ‘corporate’ thing, but I had a meeting where I needed to make an impact today, so it was required. I spent the whole day feeling like I was playing dress up, but the meeting had exactly the desired outcome, so it was worth it!

Day 25

Scarf – Becksondergaard
T-shirt – Uniqlo
Jeans – Goldsign
Boots – Ash
Watch – Olivia Burton

The eagle eyed amongst you will notice a couple of new acquisitions here! More on those in a separate post, but I promise I haven’t broken the terms of my ban.

Day 26

T-shirt – Gap
Jeans – Goldsign
Boots – Ash
Watch – Olivia Burton

Variations on a theme here – I’ve fallen back in love with my Ash Jalouse during the slightly cooler weather. They are so comfy and have that casual-cool thing going on. Another highly recommended footwear purchase if you’re in the market.

Day 27

Shirt – Uniqlo
Jeans – J Brand
Boots – Boden
Watch – Olivia Burton

This was probably my favourite outfit of the week. I love a flannel shirt and this monochrome check one looks fab with my precious pink boots!

Back later with today’s outfit, and that handbag post I owe you…

Happy Koople

I spotted this Kooples top on one of my many maternity leave potters round Westfield last summer and really liked it. However, for some reason (because goodness knows I am no stranger overspending) I deemed it too expensive at £115 and bought a cheaper alternative from Gap.

Like all good cheaper alternatives that top was worn once and hangs forlornly in my wardrobe, so I now have a policy whereby, if I seem something I really like, I visit it a couple of times, either online or in store, and if my ardour doesn’t dampen, I buy it, even if it is expensive. Yes, I may have to rein my spending in for a bit, but isn’t that better than ending up with a wardrobe full of unloved ‘also-rans’which never live up to the memory of the original?

Anyway, I’d completely forgotten about this ‘one that got away’ until I happened on a Kooples outlet store while out shopping for my husbands birthday. Immediately that I saw the word ‘outlet’ the words ‘I wonder…’ floated through my mind… And, lo and behold, there it was. The broderie top of my dreams, reduced to a considerably less painful £46.

I’ve worn it today with a pale grey vest underneath, which helps to show off the beautiful cutwork detail on the front, which is also reflected on the sleeves. I like the fact that this top is slightly longer at the back, for obvious reasons, and that the fit is quite neat – often cotton tops of this nature can be a bit matronly on a larger bust.

I fear I’m not doing this top justice really, as I only had time to take a quick snap at the end of a busy and stressful day (hence the scowl), so it looks a little creased. Never mind, I know I’ll get lots of wear from it over the summer, so next time it will get a proper (non iPhone) photo to show off the detail.

It’s chino time!

I just had to wear my beautiful Jemima Vine python slippers again today. They were designed with city workers in mind and for me they are a welcome and stylish alternative to black ballerinas. I’m loving them so much I’m already considering these neon beauties:

The weather might have taken a turn for the worse but I’m forging on regardless, wearing my snake-print lovelies with rolled up navy chinos and a striped t-shirt. The chinos are last year’s from Uniqlo, and one of the best things was being able to have them altered in store, for free! As the owner of a pair of less than statuesque legs, this is a mightily useful service which I regularly take advantage of!

I’ve added a bright green belt to keep the neutral tones from looking too flat. This belt is currently on sale for £9.99 in store, though this doesn’t show on the website, and the laser cut holes make it fully adjustable.
