What I got for Christmas (and a little sales wish list)…

Bit late in posting this – as usual, the festive season chewed me up and spat me out a shadow of my former self. I’m secretly quite glad it’s now January and 11am drinking is frowned upon once more.

I was very lucky to receive some beautiful things for Christmas, the first of which being these J Crew shoes:

Collection lace-up caged pumps

Collection lace-up caged pumps

They had their inaugural wear on NYE and while they weren’t like walking on air exactly, I was able to dance all night and walk home in them, which is more than can be said of most of my shoe collection. Yes, they are pricey, but I think really special occasion shoes are worth the investment. However, if you’re looking for a more affordable addition to your shoe collection, you may like the next pair Santa brought me, as they’re now in the sale:

Kurt Geiger Jamie Black High Heel Sandal

Kurt Geiger Jamie Black High Heel Sandal

I haven’t worn these Kurt Geiger sandals yet but they’ve been very comfortable when parading about the house. I have a smart dinner to attend next weekend so I’ll probably wear these with either leather leggings or a LBD – I’ll report back on the comfort factor.

Alexander McQueen De Manta Printed Clutch

Alexander McQueen De Manta Printed Clutch

I’ve wanted a De Manta clutch for, ooh, forever, and this diamond print,  monochrome version is perfect for me. It’s currently sold out as it went into the sale, but if you’re after one, keep checking back for returns as it’s a great price for a forever bag.

Elsa Peretti charcoal-colour Bone cuff

Elsa Peretti charcoal-colour Bone cuff

Last on my gift list (other than the usual DVD box sets) is this stunning Tiffany cuff. This is another item I have had on my wish list for years so I was just thrilled to add it to my jewellery box. My lovely husband did very well this year!

So, what have I got my eye on in the sales?

Jigsaw Pheobe Shearling Tote

Jigsaw Pheobe Shearling Tote – Was £149 Now £74

This plush shearling tote is stunning in real life. I have lots of small cross body bags, but I am a bit lacking in the tote department. This would be handy for those days when I need to carry a little bit more!

Rosemunde Short Sleeve Lace T-Shirt - Was £77 Now £53

Rosemunde Short Sleeve Lace T-Shirt – Was £77 Now £53

I already have this top in navy and I get loads of wear from it – I love this plum shade, it would look great with black skinnies in the evening, or teamed with a pencil skirt for the office.

Isabel Marant Silver-tone ear cuffs

Isabel Marant Silver-tone ear cuffs

I’ve just ordered these ear cuffs after having them pinned for a while as I noticed they were on sale. I always wanted more ear piercings, but wasn’t badass enough (and getting my navel pierced at a festival with the predictable consequences put me off a bit) so these are a good compromise!

So, what did you find in your stocking? Or have you snared any great bargains in the sale? I’d love to hear about them – comments in the usual ways!

If, like me, you’re a fan of a quirky print, you’ll love this gorgeous rabbit print dress from Paul and Joe Sister. I actually have a playsuit in the navy version of this print and it is one of my very favourite things, so this dress is super-tempting. It’s another fab trans-seasonal piece as it will look great now with bare legs and a tan, but also really cute with opaques and biker boots when it’s cooler.

Insiders Event at The Dressing Room

This week I had the privilege of attending The Dressing Room’s Insiders Event.

20131024-200454.jpgHell, I knew it was going to be good when the invite turned up looking like this:
20131024-200505.jpg
I’ve been collaborating with the store for a while now testing out products, styling looks and generally showcasing their fantastic wares, so it was about time I got myself up to St Albans for a gander. I most certainly was not disappointed.
20131024-193434.jpg
The event was to celebrate the relaunch of a brand new Dressing room complete with beautiful decor and a slick website (the site isn’t live quite yet, but I’ve had a sneak peek and it is fab!) Having seen some pics on Twitter I couldn’t wait to get in and rifle through those rails!

20131024-193537.jpg
I was also keen to meet Deryane, the one-woman whirlwind behind the store’s success since the launch in 2005. Readers, I have a new girl crush. The passion with which she spoke about her business was so inspiring, not to mention the glut of awards she has won! I was thrilled also to meet the team. Every member of shop-floor staff is a trained stylist and it shows, they are attentive without being pushy and as happy to let you browse as to style you head to toe. They all share the same vision; making shopping at the store an ‘experience’. And don’t just take my word for it, I have a lovely friend who is a St Albanite and DR regular (*waves to Sally*) who regularly raves about the customer service.

20131024-193824.jpg
The Dressing Room stocks 80(!) brands, so the feel is more like that of an intimate department store than a small boutique. You know, one where the staff care about you rather than giving you the snooty up-and-down. The clothes are arranged tonally, complimenting each other and punctuated with glittering display cabinets full of jewellery and racks of colourful scarves.

20131024-193758.jpg
20131024-193858.jpg
Behind the till is a display of tit tape and chicken fillets ahem, wardrobe solutions, while Spanx and tights are also available. I love the idea that you can get the whole lot in one place. No buying a plunging dress and then schlepping off to Boots here

20131024-193923.jpg
Prices start at around £20, and this was a deliberate decision by Deryane. She explained that she never wanted anyone to feel too intimidated by the more expensive labels to come in. I think this philosophy is as savvy as it is sensitive. A 16 year old might start her Dressing Room journey with a Tokyo Jane bangle or Great Plains top and end up buying J Brand jeans and Ash boots in her thirties and beyond.

20131024-194107.jpg
The brands themselves sit alongside each other beautifully. Deryane certainly has fantastic taste. At one point I joked that I’d ‘take one of each’… I wasn’t really joking.

20131025-102321.jpg
After a natter with the other bloggers and a glass or two of fizz, I got to play dress-up. You can practically hear the hand clapping and squealing, can’t you?

20131024-194304.jpgHere I am trying on a gorgeous panelled Great Plains dress and subtly metallica Lola Cruz boots

20131024-194311.jpgAnd here in a Great Plains pleather sleeve t-shirt and Hudson camo jeans. The girls made some great suggestions for us all, and needless to say I couldn’t resist a couple of purchases, one of which was this Lola Rose ring:

20131025-101057.jpgIt was a real ‘gotta have it’ moment and I’m already regretting not snapping up the matching pendant! I’m going to do some heavy hinting to the other half in the run up to the festive season.

Speaking of which, it felt like Christmas when we got our goody bags! We each got our own gorgeous Becksondergaard scarf (modelled below – look who got the neon!), plus a few other treats, which you’ll see in situ over the coming weeks.

20131024-194253.jpg

20131024-200440.jpgAll in all, it was a delightful way to spend an afternoon, and I’m so glad I made the trip. I’m already itching to get back for that necklace… And maybe the dress… And there was this pair of trainers too…

A big thank you to Deryane and the girls for being such great hosts!

P.S. This is not a sponsored post (though I was plied with alcohol and given a beautiful goody bag) and, as ever, I wouldn’t recommend anything I didn’t wholeheartedly believe in.

Scandi Style Month at The Dressing Room

This month is Scandi Style Month over at Twentymumthing favourite The Dressing Room. This is exactly what it sounds like; a celebration of Scandinavian Style, showcasing the fabulous brands the DR stock such as Becksondergaard, Twist&Tango and Tokyo Jane. You can read more about everything they have going on over on their blog but on to my involvement… Those lovely Dressing Room folk got in touch to ask me to review some pieces by Rosemunde. This Danish brand design luxurious wardrobe staples in a silk blend which slip seamlessly into your existing wardrobe. Need proof? Ok then…

Rosemunde2

Outfit:

Vest – Rosemunde (similar)
Top – Rosemunde
Jeans – Paige
Boots – Ash
Scarf – Becksondergaard

These tops work so well layered together as part of an everyday outfit. I love the tonal look acheived by layering the two shades of grey. Boyfriend jeans and a pretty bird scarf by another Scandi brand, Becksondergaard, make this a perfect casual look.

Rosemunde1

Outfit:

Vest – Rosemunde
Jeans – Twist & Tango
Shoes – Christian Louboutin
Bag – Jimmy Choo

If you saw yesterday’s post you’ll have seen the outfit I put together for an anniversary meal with my husband, and this is a variation on a theme. While these tops are great for layering, they are fabulous worn simply with skinnies too. The delicate lace is the perfect foil to the pointy stilettos and zip detail on the jeans.

Rosemunde3

Outfit:

Vest – Rosemunde (similar)
Cardigan – Rosemunde
Skirt – T by Alexander Wang
Shoes – Jemima Vine

Here I’ve put together a look which I think works really well for the office. I’m wearing a twin-set but (hopefully) don’t look like I’m missing my set of pearls and sensible court shoes. The colours palette is very simple, but the lace detail at the front (and back, check out the link) of the cardigan adds interest. And these tops would work just as well with jeans and boots too – I do like a multi-tasker.

Rosemunde4

Outfit:

Grey Vest – Rosemunde (similar)
Purple Vest – Rosemunde
Jacket – American Vintage (similar)
Jeans – Goldsign
Boots – Ash

How beautiful is this aubergine colour? I love purple for Autumn/Winter, and this top looks so gorgeous layered with the pale grey. I can’t find this vest on the website, but if you give the lovely ladies at the Dressing Room a call, I’m sure they can sort you out. I haven’t mentioned just how delicious these tops feel against the skin. The high silk content means they are super soft, and they’re suprisingly warm too – perfect for layering up on chilly days. The other great thing about them is that although they’re quite figure hugging, they don’t ride up (the bane of my life with long vests!)

So, now you’ve seen how easily these great basics slot into my wardrobe, maybe you fancy some in yours? Well, your luck is in! From today unti midnight tomorrow (Tues 10 Sept) The Dressing Room are offering an extra 10% off all full priced items with code AUTUMN10. What better way to kickstart your A/W wardrobe? Do let me know what you’re buying or dreaming of buying – I love shopping vicariously!

DISCLAIMER: I received the grey vest shown in the pictures as a thank you for doing this review, but, as ever, all views are very much my own. The rest of the tops are winging their way back to St Albans (though having seen how lovely the slate grey long-sleeved top looks with my vest, I’m seriously considering breaking my ban!)

And yes, I know my patio needs weeding.

C150 – Day 44 – 47

Day 44

20130908-190906.jpg

Outfit:

Shirt – Diesel via TK Maxx
Trousers – Gerard Darel
Shoes – Boden

One of my favourite and oft used combinations here; monochrome with a touch of bright. Very easy to put together when I’m fumbling around blindly in my wardrobe at 5.30am.

Day 45

20130908-191247.jpg

Outfit:

Dress – Damsel in a Dress
Shoes – Banana Republic

I blogged about this dress aaaages ago, but, like a magpie, promptly got distracted by something shiny and forgot to order it, remembering only when it had sold out. eBay searches had proved fruitless when by chance, on a rare day off with my very dear husband, I clocked it on the rails in TK Maxx. I didn’t buy it due to the spending ban, but Mr TMT sneakily got it for me. Well done, that man. Probably helps that it’s slinky. Had it been harem pants they’d be languishing still.

Day 46

20130908-191659.jpg

Outfit:

Sweatshirt – Gap
Vest – Rosemunde c/o The Dressing Room
Jeans – Goldsign
Boots – Aldo

Very casual for a day spent doing not much at all with the littl’uns. I’m so glad biker boots are back in vogue, as I adore this Aldo pair. I bought them a few weeks after I had my youngest and they’ve proved an excellent buy. The leather has softened a treat and they are so comfortable. This pair are similar and look gorgeous.

Day 47

20130908-192352.jpg

Outfit:

Vest – Rosemunde c/o The Dressing Room
Leather trousers – Freda at Matches
Shoes – M&S via Ebay

A very rare evening out look! It is out wedding anniversary this week so we capitalised on my mother-in-law visiting and took the opportunity to slope off for wine and tapas. I wore my gorgeous new vest top (more on this in a separate post tomorrow – look out for a discount code) and my faithful leather trousers. I got these in the January sales for about £150, reduced from £500+ and they are just the most delicious, buttery soft leather. I loved this outfit and so did Mr TMT, so everyone was happy!

And the moment you’ve all been waiting for…the bag of the week:

20130908-193743.jpg
There are two reasons why I love this 3.1 Phillip Lim 31 hour tote: 1. The simplicity and 2. The colour. Absolutely sublime.
