Sales Haul – Part Two

Been a bit quiet this week, haven’t I? On Tuesday I had an operation to correct a longstanding problem with my right hand so I’m jabbing away on my iPhone with my left thumb, and posts are taking rather longer to get out there!

Anyway, onto the second installment of my sales haul series. I mentioned in this post that I had placed a naughty little order with Jimmy Choo, and here is the result:

20130623-163251.jpg
Aren’t they beautiful?? I have had my eye on them since the beginning of the year, and I’m so happy to finally have them in my wardrobe. It’s so satisfying when you finally get hold of a long-lusted-after item! They’ve now sold out on the Jimmy Choo site but can be found in limited sizes on Net-a-Porter.

I only allowed myself one pair of beautiful flats, but these glittery slip-ons were close runners-up…

20130623-183125.jpgMaybe not quite so practical for the office though!

The Flat Pack

Well I never! The sun actually shone over London for pretty much the duration of the bank holiday weekend. Planets must have aligned or some shiz. Anyway, I hear it will be raining again tomorrow, but in honour of the three days of actually-fairly-average-for-this-time-of-year-but-gratefully-received weather I will be posting today about my favourite summer staple – the flat sandal.

Over the years I’ve amassed quite a collection, so I thought I’d show you a few of my favourites! This has absolutely nothing to do with the fact I have several hormonal chin spots and really don’t want my photo taken. Oh no.

20130527-191555.jpg
First up are this neon pair from Topshop. Neon never seems to show up properly in photos, but these are bright! I love these so much, they seem to go with everything, and they really enhance a tan! I regret not buying the pink and yellow they did too.

20130527-192319.jpgThe nearest I could find were these MM6 beauties, not cheap at £215, but hey, the sales are coming up!

20130527-193059.jpgThis leather tribal pair set me back a massive £3, brand new, at my local car boot sale. I love these on holiday as they are super light and have foam soles, so make a more sophisticated alternative to flip flops. They jazz up my cropped denims a treat and also work well with a Breton dress.

This Antik Batik pair would work just as well and are currently on sale at £59. I love pink and orange together – the perfect zingy colour combo!

20130527-193733.jpg
These were my only purchase from last year’s much feted H&M collaboration with Marni. The prints didn’t really do it for me but I knew I had to have these beauties. I love how shiny they are but I’m not convinced they don’t make me look a little cankletastic so I usually wear them with a maxi.

Silver sandals are so versatile and these Dune gladiators would add interest to the simplest summer outfit. I’d wear them with boyfriend jeans and a stripy tee.

20130527-194343.jpg

I think everyone needs a pair of jewel encrusted flats in their life! These River Island ones saved my bacon at a few summer weddings during my second pregnancy and now I always sling them in my bag when I go to one, so I can slip them on when I’m bored of my heels sinking in the grass/dancing/just plain too drunk to stand in heels.

This Karen Millen pair are so elegant, I think they’d be the smart option for any summer event. Pain-free chic gets my vote every time!

leopard This leopard pair from Boden are among my very favourites. They are really comfy and I love the strappy, cage-like effect. I’ll even forgive them the dodgy tan lines!

all ba

This All Black pair are a simpler style, but just as chic! I’m very tempted by these. They’d be perfect with a black column maxi.

snake

These Nine West gladiators were my first foray into the world of the flat sandal (flip flops excepted). They pre-date my husband and I love them nearly as much! I remember buying them on a shopping trip with my mum – she talked me into them. Ahead of her time, as always!

If you’re after your own snakey sandal, the Studio Beat from Clarks could be the one. I really like the chain detailing on the front strap and the way the pattern continues onto the heel – the devil is in the detail when it comes to flat sandals!

gigis

Ah, Sam Edelman Gigis. The eternal blogger’s cliche. And, just like the Michael Kors watch before them, I’m a fully signed up member of the club. My rose gold pair came to me via the Outnet for a very reasonable £37. They really are as comfortable as everyone says!

20130528-080044.jpg

Should I ever find myself in need of a second pair, I think I’d choose these animal print lovelies, though the Gigi comes in SO many colour ways I’d be spoilt for choice.

So, that completes my run down of my favourite flat sandals. Did you notice the glaring omission? There is one, I promise, and I’ll be discussing that in further detail in my next post. If none of those bad boys tickle your fancy, I’ll leave you with one more pair. Sporty and practical with a hint of Louis Vuitton-style checkerboard detailing….

Nice, eh? So, what did you get up to in the sunshine? Did you get your toes out? Do let me know!

Review: Mary & Clarks La Promenade Studded Brogue

When I was approached to review some shoes from the Mary & Clarks collection, I knew exactly the pair I would chose – the La Promenade Studded Brogue.

20130424-210316.jpgI had tweeted about them earlier in the week, and they were already on my mental shopping list, so it was great to have the opportunity to ‘try before you buy’. And buy I most certainly shall, as these shoes are, in the words of someone much cooler than me, the bomb.

The Mary in question is of course, Mary Portas, of Queen of Shops fame, and as you would expect from such a shrewd businesswoman, these shoes are considered and carefully thought out. The combination of brogue style, metallic snake print and studs is fabulously OTT and completely on trend (rather like Mary herself). I love the juxtaposition of sensible shoe with blingy glamour – I would feel completely comfortable (in both senses of the word) wearing these shoes on a night out. If you want a slightly more toned down version, they also come in black or white.

The leather is light and soft, the laces are waxed, so won’t get soggy in the rain, and the best part? They have underfoot padding. I know – heaven! One thing I will say though is, if you are between sizes, size down. I usually wear a 6, or a 5.5 if I can find one, but the sample I was sent to review is a 5, and it fits like a glove.

Now, I know what you’re all thinking, a blogger paid to plug a product will wax lyrical about any old bobbins. Well, no. Firstly, I have far too much integrity for that kind of carry-on and secondly, the shoes are only on loan (sob) and I was not paid a penny for this review. I genuinely just think these shoes are brilliant, and I like to share my discovery of anything great with you lot.

I have styled them here with cropped jeans and a (slightly crumpled) Mickey Mouse t-shirt for a casual look, but for work I will wear them with slim-fit tailored trousers and a fitted shirt, or even a midi-skirt.

20130424-205648.jpgLuckily for me, there is currently 20% off the entire Mary & Clarks collection when you enter code “BMARY13” at the checkout. Even if the brogues aren’t for you, check out the rest of the range, because it’s not often you find shoes of this quality at a sensible price! I’ve also got my eye on the La Lumiere in blue snake and the La Tullerie in grey snake.

Wednesday Want

I know, I know. I’m obsessed with shoes. But really, does anything else incite the covetousness within us quite like them? Well, yes, actually handbags probably do. And jewellery. And statement sweatshirts.

But, for me, shoes really are my Achilles heel (no pun intended), which is why, more often than not, you’ll find them in my Wednesday Want feature.

The pair giving me arrhythmia this week are these gorgeous snake print flats from Jemima Vine.

20130403-190744.jpg
A relative newcomer to the footwear scene, this brand has already caught the attention of many a fashion editor, and with good reason. I’d wear these with… Well, pretty much everything actually!

Another pair or reptilian flats which have also caught my eye and deserve a mention are these lovely neon slingbacks from John Lewis Collection WEEKEND, great for brightening up your denim, they also come in pink!

20130403-191100.jpg
So, which do you prefer…?

Wednesday Want – Double I-shoe

Two Wednesday Wants for you today, and both of the footwear persuasion. I’ve been focussing on bags for a while but now shoes are starting to creep back into my consciousness, and I’m really lusting after these gorgeous slippers from Charles Philip Shanghai:

20130306-114918.jpgThis brand first came to my attention last year when it was first stocked on NaP, and I love the beautiful print and vibrant colour on this pair. A slightly more interesting alternative to ballet flats, they will look great with boyfriend jeans.

On the workwear front I have become obsessed with this lovely pair of cobalt courts from Russell and Bromley.

20130306-115732.jpg

I have never found a more comfortable pair of heels than at R&B (don’t believe the lies about Louboutins, they are beautiful, but will destroy your feet as easily as a £20 pair from New Look), so I know these will be great for work. I think they will look lovely with a simple black shift or printed trousers.

Monday Morning Lust List – Kurt Geiger

One for all you shoe lovers out there! I’m feeling a bit blue this morning after a long Valentine’s weekend with my husband, so what better way to restore that loving feeling than with a spot of shoe porn.

Kurt Geiger is like the Playboy Mansion when it comes to shoes; super tempting, with something to tickle everyone’s fancy. Here are a few of my favourites (just click on any of the images to take you directly to the site):

Kurt Geiger London Ella

Kurt Geiger London Ella, £195

I really like the silver mock croc toe and sturdy heel on this pair. They also come in black and white if you don’t want to make quite such a statement! I’d wear these with a black leather midi skirt and a grey marl sweatshirt and let the shoes take centre stage.

Anais Kurt Geiger London, £150

Anais Kurt Geiger London, £150

I’ve been looking for a pair of low heeled black shoes for work, and these might just be the ones. They’d look great with a pair of cropped, slim-fit trousers.

Liquorice KG Kurt Geiger, £39

Liquorice KG Kurt Geiger, £39

Then again, how fierce would these look with the same cropped trousers? And with a discount this good, I’d be rude not to, wouldn’t I..?

Sloane Carvela Kurt Geiger, £150

I’ve been smitten by these since I was first tipped off about them by a friend who works in the fashion industry. A more affordable version of these, they’ll go with everything from skirts to skinnies. The gorgeous oxblood colour is on sale too!

Shannon Carvela Kurt Geiger, £60

Shannon Carvela Kurt Geiger, £60

Oh, I love these. I know they are ridiculously impractical for a woman who spends her off-duty days kicking round a muddy park, but how amazing would they look with indigo skinnies and a simple grey tee. For the practical among you, they also come in black (though they are not as heavily reduced – can’t imagine why!)

Senorita Carvela Kurt Geiger, £70

Senorita Carvela Kurt Geiger, £70

I’m a sucker for a cowboy boot, and these are like a cheaper version of my Cobra Society pair. These would add a bit of edge to a flirty sundress on a summer day.

Funky Ash, £190

Funky Ash, £190

Now it wouldn’t be a shoe post from me if I didn’t include a pair of wedge trainers! I love this pair, not least because they remind me of the Buffalos I had back in 1997 when the Spice Girls ruled the world. Not everyone’s cup of tea, I know, but I’d be very surprised if these didn’t find their way into my shoe closet.

Star Acne, £400

For those of you with serious money to spend, the Acne Star boot. I have loved these since I first laid eyes on them, but last week I saw a girl in the lift at work wearing a grey pair (and carrying a PS1!), and love became obsession. Of course they are sold out in the grey everywhere. Sigh.

KG have been running their “Everything but the dress” campaign for a few seasons now, so it wouldn’t be right if I didn’t finish with a gorgeous accessory:

Jessie Brocade Clutch KG Kurt Geiger, £70

Jessie Brocade Clutch KG Kurt Geiger, £70

Jessie Brocade Clutch KG Kurt Geiger, £70

I love this Jessie Brocade clutch in both colours, perfect for dressing up a simple outfit. I can see this clutch looking fab with white jeans on a summer night out.

And if that wasn’t temptation enough, you can get 25% off all full-priced merchandise from the following brands: Kurt Geiger London, KG Kurt Geiger, Carvela Kurt Geiger, Mr KG and Miss KG, using discount code VOGUE25 until 5 July 2013! Don’t say I never give you anything…
