Sale Preview with The Dressing Room

It’s that time of year, one of my favourite stores, The Dressing Room, is about to start their sale and I was lucky enough to get a sneak preview of some of the fabulous pieces to be reduced. I’ve done a few of these sale preview posts in the past but I can honestly say this was the most fun. The girls at the DR always send lovely items but the ones I received to style this time were just sublime. Honestly, any one of them would fit perfectly into my wardrobe. I’ve styled them with a party theme in mind as NYE is just around the corner and if you’re looking for a new outfit, now is the time to bag a bargain! The first item is this beautiful Day Birger Et Mikkelsen silk tee with lace insert detail. I cannot overstate just how lovely this top is in the flesh. It’s hard to see the detail on a black top but believe me, this is special. The perfect top for when you need something to wear with skinnies and heels while looking polished and chic.

Day Lazy Top – Was £145 Now £95

And here I am in it. I paired it with sequinned leggings and black patent pumps for a rock chic feel. IMG_1090 The next item is this stunning jumper from Cocoa Cashmere. This beautiful lace print knit is so thick and soft, I didn’t want to take it off. I wear a lot of cashmere in the winter but always plain block colours so this felt really different and just a little bit special.

Lace Print Jumper - Alabaster Black - Was £189.00 Now £99

Lace Print Jumper – Alabaster Black – Was £189.00 Now £99

Here I’ve paired it with a tulle midi skirt and bright suede pumps. This is the kind of outfit I’d wear if I were hosting drinks at home, comfy and relaxed but still glamourous. I love the mix of textures in this outfit. IMG_1059 The last item I was sent is this stunning top from American Vintage. Made in a lovely heavy crepe fabric it just drapes so beautifully and the distinctive, go-with-anything print makes it a no brainer when getting dressed in a hurry. I was very kindly offered my favourite item to keep and this is the one I decided on. I can see myself getting so much wear out of it!

Tulsa Sleeveless Top in Pepper Grid - Was £74 Now £XX

Tulsa Sleeveless Top in Pepper Grid – Was £74 Now £50

I’ve put it with leather leggings and bright pointy pumps for a simple, edgy look that could take you just about anywhere. This is a very strong contender for the illustrious title of Xmas Day outfit! IMG_1094

The sale starts online on Christmas Day and online shoppers should sign up to the newsletter now to receive an exclusive, limited time discount tomorrow morning, so make sure you check your inbox bright and early! If you happen to be in the St Albans vicinity, the sale starts in store on Saturday 27 December and the first 20 customers through the door will receive a bonus 10% discount on all sale items! Hope you’re all feeling suitably festive – I’ll be back tomorrow to reveal what Santa brought me. I’ve been a very, very good girl this year!

If, like me, you’re a fan of a quirky print, you’ll love this gorgeous rabbit print dress from Paul and Joe Sister. I actually have a playsuit in the navy version of this print and it is one of my very favourite things, so this dress is super-tempting. It’s another fab trans-seasonal piece as it will look great now with bare legs and a tan, but also really cute with opaques and biker boots when it’s cooler.

Star Mela Long Sleeve Cotton Ula Top - Turquoise NOW £50 Was £78

Summer Sale time at The Dressing Room

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll be aware that the sales have started. I may have even succumbed to a cheeky purchase or two myself – more on that to come in a future post!

Anyway, my good friends over at The Dressing Room got in touch to see if I’d like a preview of some sale goodies. That’ll do nicely, said I! So here I am modelling some of the fab bargains you can get your hands on TOMORROW at 9.30am when the sale goes live! If you happen to be local to St Albans, the first 20 customers into the store on the Saturday will receieve an extra 10% off sale items. If not, sign up to the Dressing Room’s mailing list now and check your mailbox on Saturday morning for an exclusive 10% discount code to use online, before 1pm!

Maison Scotch Grandad Long Sleeve Tee in Blush – NOW £45 WAS £68

This top is a good buy as it’s actually a two in one – you get a grey vest top and the long-sleeved pink one. The blush colour is so pretty and Maison Scotch quality is excellent. I’ve styled it as part of a casual look, something easy to wear when running around after my little monsters rascals.

photo-2

Great Plains Jolly Roger Slouch Vest in Seahorse Green – NOW £30 WAS £48

This slouchy vest is another multi-occasion winner. You can style it for a night out with coated skinnies and cage sandals, as I’ve done here, or wear it as a fab beach cover up over a bikini and flip-flops. I do love stripes for the summer!

photo-4

Great Plains Lucy Stripe Short Sleeve Jersey Dress in Cobalt Blue/Salt – NOW £38 WAS £55

I know it’s a blogger cliche, but this really is a dress you can dress up or down. The combination of stripes and beaded embellishment mean it can work for a variety of occasions. I’m wearing it with bright ballet pumps for a casual look, but by teaming it with cream strappy sandals and a complimentary clutch it could easily do a wedding or christening.

photo-3

Great Plains Shelly Beach Maxi Dress in Navy – NOW £30 WAS £45

This was my children’s favourite outfit. They said I looked like ‘a beautiful mermaid’. Now I don’t know about that, but this is a great easy breezy dress for a sultry day. I found that the print is so standout that it worked best with simple accessories.

photo-5

Becksondergaard Blurred Leo Scarf in Bright Orange – NOW £20 WAS £33

The final item I was sent, and the one I decided to keep, was this lovely leopard print scarf. I’m having a real love affair with orange at the moment – so bright and zingy for summer. Not to mention it works a treat with my new favourite lippy!

So, make sure you’re up early to check out the great buys on offer tomorrow morning – it’s one not to miss! And while you’re online click back onto my blog where I’ll be rounding up my favourite picks from the DR sale!

Disclaimer: all opinions my own, though The Dressing Room did kindly allow me to keep the item of my choice.

Things what I bought in the sales

So January is FINALLY over, I’ve been paid (thank god) and I’m ready to embrace the new season. Sorry you’ve not seen much of me lately – I’ve come good on my New Year’s Resolution to do more exercise and have been out running pretty much every spare minute of my day.

So, what have a bought in the sales? Well beside a lot of neon running gear, which I’ll spare you the sight of, quite a bit actually…

You’ve seen these already, the Isabel Marant Bennett wedge high top:

20140131-124832.jpg

These are already proving their worth and have been worn many times. They tick all the boxes for me. A good buy!

Zoe Karssen ‘Homme’ hoodie:

20140131-125104.jpgI’m wearing this as we speak. I picked it up half price in the Matches sale and I love it. So comfy while being fitted and still slightly edgy so I don’t feel like a total slob.

Hobbs Lulu dress:

20140131-125513.jpg

I’d been stalking this dress for a while and when it dropped to £50 I bagged it. A great work basic.

Jewel of Liberty silk scarf:

20140131-125758.jpgSometimes an item just speaks to you. I spotted this scarf when I was mooching in Liberty just before Christmas and I just fell in love. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, that’s for sure, but I’ve never liked tea anyway. I got it at half price which I was very pleased about. I’ve worn it a few times air hostess style but I’m looking for inspiration to tie it in other ways if anyone has an idea!

Me&Em Ruched Cowl Neck Dress

Me&EmI have the short sleeved version of this dress in navy and it has been so useful that I couldn’t resist the forest green long-sleeved version. I’ve said it before but these dresses feel as close to wearing your pyjamas to work as possible – perhaps I shouldn’t be so pleased about that, but in my world comfort is king!

James Perse Tank Dress

20140101-122717.jpg

I’ve shown you my James Perse dress before, but I am so pleased with this one, it really is a ‘take you anywhere’ dress with the right accessories – not bad for £50.

Dune Nins boots

Dune NiinsThese were a bit of an impulse buy while roaming the Selfridges sale. They have a very definite look of the Rag & Bone Newburys but were about a tenth of the price. I’m finding them very useful on evenings out when I want to look a bit glam but can’t face cold feet (i.e. 9 months of the year).

Comptoir des Cotonniers wedge boots

Comptoir

Irritatingly these boots are now cheaper than they were when I bought them, but I have had so much wear out of them I can’t begrudge £20. They are fabulously French chic and easy on the feet. What’s not to like?

Charles Phillip Slippers

CPSAnother buy you already know about, my fab tartan slippers. Impractical and a bit ridiculous, these make me happy every time I look at my feet!

Rich and Skinny jeans

R&S

These jeans were a lucky TK Maxx find. I always find my best buys in their clearance section which either means I have hideous taste and am hopelessly deluded or that the general public are less appreciative than I. I prefer the latter option. These may have knocked my Goldsign Virtuals off the top of my jeans hierarchy – they are so flattering. There were a few different Rich and Skinny styles in my local branch, so could be worth a look.

Dr Denim solitaire jeggings

Dr DenimI needed black jeans and I was all ready to spring for some premium denim but was struggling to find what I wanted. I know my favourites The Dressing Room stock this label, and Deryane the manager knows her stuff, so I thought I’d give the Solitaire jeggings a whirl. I’m really glad I did! When they arrived they were TINY. I genuinely didn’t think an actual human could wear them, but man, do they stretch. The rise on these is high, as in up to my navel, but I love that as there is zero danger of flashing my pants. They keep their shape remarkably well and for £30, I’m made up.

The Dressing Room – Sale Preview

Sales are happening thick and fast at the moment, aren’t they? Well, save yourself for The Dressing Room’s awesome Winter Sale. The girls were kind enough to send over a selection of items to try, so here is an exclusive sneak preview:

First up, here I am wearing the Great Plains Music Melody dress. This shift is so easy to wear – the slightly darker print on the bottom half of the dress is great for slimming hips, and the rich green is perfect for the season. I have added a bold necklace and black over the knee boots for a look that could take you from the office to a bar.

Boots – Dune
Necklace – Oliver Bonas

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again – you can’t go wrong with a stripey top. Farhi do this style every season and I think the shape really elevates a simple stripe to something special. This top would be great for a sophisticated evening outfit, and I have paired it with leather (look) leggings and black pointy kitten heels to keep the look simple and streamlined.

I was very kindly allowed to keep one of the items I reviewed here and I chose this Maison Scotch tunic. It’s not easy to see from the photo, but is has a very delicate speckled pattern and some contrasting trim at the shoulder which gives it a glam-bohemian effect. To be honest, it looks a lot like something Isabel Marant might design. Easy to dress up or dress down, I can see it will be a really versatile addition to my wardrobe. In fact I wore the outfit to a birthday party yesterday afternoon!

Scarf – Becksondergaard

The final item I trialled was this gorgeous Becksondergaard scarf. I have acquired several of their scarves since I started working with The Dressing Room and I can really vouch for their quality. This beautiful blue leopard print version fits in so well with my existing wardrobe, I think I’ll be snapping it up in the sale myself! I’ve opted for a casual look here, ideal for running around after the kids.

Now, I happen to know that there will be a special Christmas surprise in store for all mailing list subscribers, so I strongly suggest you sign up to their newsletter and keep an eye on your inbox over the festive season.

Go on, log on and bag some bargains – it sure beats battling the rain on Oxford Street and winding up with pneumonia like I did last year! And make sure you report back on any purchases, of course!

Happy Birthday to me!

Yesterday I turned the fairly unremarkable age of 29. Mr TMT and I have an annual tradition of visiting Hyde Park Winter Wonderland every year on my birthday so off we went.

This year I had an extra special gift courtesy of the lovely folk at The Dressing Room – a beautiful Becksondergaard scarf sent to me as part of their Becksondergaard blogger challenge! The idea behind the challenge is that each blogger showcases their personality in the way they wear their scarf.

I’m not really a neat and tidy person, so I like my scarves BIG. This fabulous tiger and star print number definitely ticks that box! I wear mine by folding it diagonally in the centre, then just sort of throwing it round my neck before tying the loose ends to really show off those stars.

The scarf perks up my dark, neural outfit a treat, and my friend here really liked it. The wool and silk mix kept me toasty on the ice and it was the first year I’ve not fallen over. Not saying that’s necessarily anything to do with the scarf but it does seem like a coincidence…

My lovely scarf is from the SS14 collection, but The Dressing Room have loads of beautiful Becksondergaard scarves here. I bought my mum this one for Christmas (don’t worry she doesn’t read the blog):
