Things what I bought in the sales

So January is FINALLY over, I’ve been paid (thank god) and I’m ready to embrace the new season. Sorry you’ve not seen much of me lately – I’ve come good on my New Year’s Resolution to do more exercise and have been out running pretty much every spare minute of my day.

So, what have a bought in the sales? Well beside a lot of neon running gear, which I’ll spare you the sight of, quite a bit actually…

You’ve seen these already, the Isabel Marant Bennett wedge high top:

These are already proving their worth and have been worn many times. They tick all the boxes for me. A good buy!

Zoe Karssen ‘Homme’ hoodie:

20140131-125104.jpgI’m wearing this as we speak. I picked it up half price in the Matches sale and I love it. So comfy while being fitted and still slightly edgy so I don’t feel like a total slob.

Hobbs Lulu dress:

20140131-125513.jpg

I’d been stalking this dress for a while and when it dropped to £50 I bagged it. A great work basic.

Jewel of Liberty silk scarf:

20140131-125758.jpgSometimes an item just speaks to you. I spotted this scarf when I was mooching in Liberty just before Christmas and I just fell in love. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, that’s for sure, but I’ve never liked tea anyway. I got it at half price which I was very pleased about. I’ve worn it a few times air hostess style but I’m looking for inspiration to tie it in other ways if anyone has an idea!

Me&Em Ruched Cowl Neck Dress

Me&EmI have the short sleeved version of this dress in navy and it has been so useful that I couldn’t resist the forest green long-sleeved version. I’ve said it before but these dresses feel as close to wearing your pyjamas to work as possible – perhaps I shouldn’t be so pleased about that, but in my world comfort is king!

James Perse Tank Dress

20140101-122717.jpg

I’ve shown you my James Perse dress before, but I am so pleased with this one, it really is a ‘take you anywhere’ dress with the right accessories – not bad for £50.

Dune Nins boots

Dune NiinsThese were a bit of an impulse buy while roaming the Selfridges sale. They have a very definite look of the Rag & Bone Newburys but were about a tenth of the price. I’m finding them very useful on evenings out when I want to look a bit glam but can’t face cold feet (i.e. 9 months of the year).

Comptoir des Cotonniers wedge boots

Comptoir

Irritatingly these boots are now cheaper than they were when I bought them, but I have had so much wear out of them I can’t begrudge £20. They are fabulously French chic and easy on the feet. What’s not to like?

Charles Phillip Slippers

CPSAnother buy you already know about, my fab tartan slippers. Impractical and a bit ridiculous, these make me happy every time I look at my feet!

Rich and Skinny jeans

R&S

These jeans were a lucky TK Maxx find. I always find my best buys in their clearance section which either means I have hideous taste and am hopelessly deluded or that the general public are less appreciative than I. I prefer the latter option. These may have knocked my Goldsign Virtuals off the top of my jeans hierarchy – they are so flattering. There were a few different Rich and Skinny styles in my local branch, so could be worth a look.

Dr Denim solitaire jeggings

Dr DenimI needed black jeans and I was all ready to spring for some premium denim but was struggling to find what I wanted. I know my favourites The Dressing Room stock this label, and Deryane the manager knows her stuff, so I thought I’d give the Solitaire jeggings a whirl. I’m really glad I did! When they arrived they were TINY. I genuinely didn’t think an actual human could wear them, but man, do they stretch. The rise on these is high, as in up to my navel, but I love that as there is zero danger of flashing my pants. They keep their shape remarkably well and for £30, I’m made up.

C150 – Day 44 – 47

Day 44

Outfit:

Shirt – Diesel via TK Maxx
Trousers – Gerard Darel
Shoes – Boden

One of my favourite and oft used combinations here; monochrome with a touch of bright. Very easy to put together when I’m fumbling around blindly in my wardrobe at 5.30am.

Day 45

20130908-191247.jpg

Outfit:

Dress – Damsel in a Dress
Shoes – Banana Republic

I blogged about this dress aaaages ago, but, like a magpie, promptly got distracted by something shiny and forgot to order it, remembering only when it had sold out. eBay searches had proved fruitless when by chance, on a rare day off with my very dear husband, I clocked it on the rails in TK Maxx. I didn’t buy it due to the spending ban, but Mr TMT sneakily got it for me. Well done, that man. Probably helps that it’s slinky. Had it been harem pants they’d be languishing still.

Day 46

20130908-191659.jpg

Outfit:

Sweatshirt – Gap
Vest – Rosemunde c/o The Dressing Room
Jeans – Goldsign
Boots – Aldo

Very casual for a day spent doing not much at all with the littl’uns. I’m so glad biker boots are back in vogue, as I adore this Aldo pair. I bought them a few weeks after I had my youngest and they’ve proved an excellent buy. The leather has softened a treat and they are so comfortable. This pair are similar and look gorgeous.

Day 47

Outfit:

Vest – Rosemunde c/o The Dressing Room
Leather trousers – Freda at Matches
Shoes – M&S via Ebay

A very rare evening out look! It is out wedding anniversary this week so we capitalised on my mother-in-law visiting and took the opportunity to slope off for wine and tapas. I wore my gorgeous new vest top (more on this in a separate post tomorrow – look out for a discount code) and my faithful leather trousers. I got these in the January sales for about £150, reduced from £500+ and they are just the most delicious, buttery soft leather. I loved this outfit and so did Mr TMT, so everyone was happy!

And the moment you’ve all been waiting for…the bag of the week:

There are two reasons why I love this 3.1 Phillip Lim 31 hour tote: 1. The simplicity and 2. The colour. Absolutely sublime.

C150 – Day 10

It is SO hot in London (as I write this I am sitting on a packed commuter train with zero air-con, I may die before I finish the post), so I wanted to keep my outfit simple and fuss free. I’ve opted for my Whistles tube skirt, with a light, sheer batwing top by Bella Luxx, a brand I discovered in TK Maxx. My new favourite shoes add the pop of colour **wanky fashion speak alarm**. All in all, I quite like it!

Introducing Challenge 150

Welcome to Day One of what I have lovingly named Challenge 150.

Background
My husband has very little faith in me when it comes to matters fiscal. We were having our monthly ‘chat’ heralding the arrival of the joint account statement, when I made a flippant remark that I could easily not spend anything for the rest of the year. The answering snort of derision was the nasal equivalent of a gauntlet being thrown down. So I am taking up the challenge – 150 days of no spending on clothes, shoes or accessories, ending on my birthday. I will then take what should hopefully be a tidy little sum and buy myself a very nice handbag, and Mr TMT a large slice of humble pie (do they sell that in Harvey Nics?)

The Rules
1. To keep things interesting for you guys, I’m going to wear (and take a photo of!) a different outfit everyday of the challenge. Obviously I will be able to repeat items, I’m not an Ecclestone, but outfits must look materially different.

2. No spending extends to all clothes, shoes and accessories. It does not include underwear, socks or tights.

3. I am allowed to accept gifts of clothing, shoes or accessories and wear them as part of the challenge.

4. I am allowed to spend vouchers generously gifted to me by retailers (I may have been saving these…)

5. Items ordered but not delivered before the start of the challenge are exempt (Boden A/W preview, I’m looking at you).

That about covers it, I think, though I may add to these as time goes on.

It’s going to be hard, isn’t it? All that tantalising A/W stock coming in and me not allowed to buy any of it. It’s a tragedy, but this is now a matter of personal honour!

So, here I am on Day One. This bright Cynthia Rowley number was a TK Maxx find just before I went back to work in September. It hasn’t had a lot of wear as the hem quickly unravelled, and it got abandoned to the pile of stuff awaiting repair/alteration in my daughter’s bedroom. I retrieved it last night, and with the help of a bit of Wundaweb, here we are – good as new!

Urban Jungle

You know by now that I like a statement skirt, and it doesn’t get much more statement-y than this little bad boy:

20130716-215754.jpg
I like this skirt because, essentially, I am a lazy dresser. Bold pattern with jewel embellishment? Stick on a black tee and a pair of kitten heels and I’m sorted. Easy. Life. It’s also 100% cotton, including the lining, which is nice in this balmy weather – nothing worse than polyester wrapping itself ’round your thighs while sweating on the tube.

It’s also now on sale here for a very reasonable £25. Can’t say fairer than that…

Working for a living

So after swearing blind I was going to be better at blogging this week, I’ve been a bit crap really, haven’t I? Work has been mental and I really haven’t had a minute. Anyway, here a a couple of snaps of what I’ve been wearing:

20130516-191650.jpg

Outfit:

Top – Whistles
Skirt – Vivienne Westwood Red Label via TK Maxx
Shoes – & Other Stories
Earrings – Kate Spade

Today, I didn’t even have time for a proper outfit shot – all you get is a quick Instagram from my desk:

20130516-191943.jpg
But as you can probably tell I’m wearing the George skirt I bleated on about for so long. And does it live up to the promise? You betcha! Good thick fabric for smoothing out the old lumps and bumps and a great length. It is cut for a curvy figure I’d say, a teensy bit roomy on the hips but not so as you’d notice, a good fit on the waist though, so I don’t think I’d have got away with an 8. I’m wearing it with my beloved Jemima Vine python flats and pretending I’m in the jungle!

No work tomorrow though, yippee! And I’ve got an exciting blog post lined up for the weekend! And an Outnet order arriving! AND it’s Eurovision! Life isn’t so bad after all…

Collar me Beautiful

Oh, low-quality, poorly lit mirror shots, how I’ve missed thee.

20130430-132444.jpgI have been looking for a really great statement necklace for aaaages now, but the usual high street subjects couldn’t come up with the goods and the likes of Mawi and Lamprini were a bit over budget, so I turned to Etsy.

20130430-133205.jpg

This Mimic Design collar leapt out at me, so I ordered it for around £20, and I am just so thrilled with it! It is exactly what I was looking for! I’m off out tonight, so I’m planning to swap the skirt for boyfriend jeans and show off my new neckwear. You can look forward to the hangover shot tomorrow!
