7 days, one skirt

This weekend I took the opportunity to escape into Topshop while Mr TMT was being press-ganged into coughing up a couple of quid for one of those extortionate, low octane rides in the shopping centre. I originally popped in to have a look at this striped dress but it wasn’t for me; lovely, but cream rather than white, which made me look like the drink had finally caught up worth my liver (surely going to happen one day).
IMG_3177All was not lost however, when I spotted this skirt:

IMG_3176When Mr TMT joined me in the queue to pay he remarked ‘if I could have picked the one item in this shop you’d buy, it’d be that’. He knows me so well. Anyway, I was waxing lyrical about how this skirt would solve ALL my wardrobe woes and how I’d wear it every day. Being the wise man he is, and privy over the years to many such episodes of fantastical nonsense, he merely raised an eyebrow, but it got me thinking; ‘could I really wear it every day?’ Not for the rest of my life, you understand. That would be skanky. Just a week. So for the next 7 days, I will be wearing my shiny new skirt and thinking of different ways to wear it. My week includes a press day, a night out, lunch with a friend and a date night with the old ball and chain. Can I make it work for all of those occasions? I will post my outfit everyday and you folks can be the judge. Today I had to take my first-born to hospital for his first blood test, which I felt a little apprehensive about. As it turned out, he was the bravest of the brave and didn’t even whimper, so all’s well that ends well. Even so, I wore a ‘happy outfit’ to lift my spirits.

Outfit:

Jumper – Boden

Skirt – Topshop

Boots – Jack Wills

Bag – Charlotte Simone

Little note about the bag: I recently bought this Charlotte Simone Bon Bon bag and I think it may honestly be the best thing I’ve ever bought. Completely frivolous and impractical, it has pride of place hanging on my wardrobe door, as it makes me smile every time I see it. Better than Valium, though sadly not available on the NHS.

Fur real!

It’s always nice to be ahead of a trend. The one I can safely say I’ve been doing for years which has finally come home to roost is faux fur. You’ll see in my post below I am wearing a leopard faux fur coat. This was an awesome bargain – I snapped it up for £20 in the ASOS sale last year. In addition I have a short leopard print jacket, bought for me for my 24th (wait, is that right?) birthday by my then-boyfriend, now-husband and a short black version which I bought from Gap, of all places, 8 years ago. They all get wheeled out year on year so, to me, faux fur is quite a good investment. Not least because it’s not an everyday thing so it doesn’t take the battering a more quotidien coat might. And let’s face it, nothing says glam like a nice fur…

This season the fashion world has gone nuts for faux fur, in all styles and hues. It all started with Shrimps:

Shrimps - £595

Shrimps – £595

Hannah Weiland’s fledgling label became a fashion editor-endorsed sensation and suddenly everyone was talking about her playful faux-fur coats and accessories. This beautiful navy version is on my wish list. The high street soon caught on and the shops are now awash with faux. Here are my favourites:

Warehouse - £85

Warehouse – £85

I must confess this Warehouse coat is on it’s way to me as we speak. I think the gorgeous deep grey makes it more versatile than some of the brighter numbers, and there is still 25% off with the code 25grazia until midnight.

Mango - £79.99

Mango – £79.99

This Mango leopard offering is not dissimilar to my ASOS number. I love the way they have styled it – can’t you just imagine Kate Moss, rock chic extraordinaire, wearing this outfit? A classic leopard faux fur never goes out of style.

Topshop - £55.00

Topshop – £55.00

A friend has this cream teddy coat from Topshop and it looks fantastic. Perfect for channeling the 70s trend that is everywhere this season. It’s currently on sale too – what more could you ask?

H&M - £29.99

H&M – £29.99

H&M have gone in for fur in a big way this season – I love this two tone bomber.

If a jacket is too much for you, how about a gilet? This H&M grey number is really versatile.

H&M - £29.99

H&M – £29.99

Now, I love all the crazy colour and pattern combinations out there at the moment, but unlike the more classic coats above, these  probably are a one-season wonder. However, accessories are an affordable way to tap into the trend for a bit of festive fun.

New Look - £17.99

New Look – £17.99

I love this bright pink clutch from New Look – perfect for brightening up winter darks and channeling your inner fraggle!

Monki - £25

Monki – £25

Or how about this cute cross body bag by Monki? Camo and fur, two trends in one AND a versatile colour-palette!

ASOS - £30

ASOS – £30

I love this bold striped stole from ASOS. I have a gorgeous burgundy Helen Moore stole that my lovely husband bought me for my birthday last year which I will be digging out soon – it’s a great way to breathe new life into coats of old (not to mention cover up the fact you haven’t been arsed to get to the dry cleaner!)

ASOS - £9

ASOS – £9

I recently invested in a faux-fur headband. I suffer from terrible earache in the winter and can usually be found with a beanie tugged firmly down over my ears. However, this can look less than elegant in the evening so this was the perfect compromise. Who says I can’t do practical?

If you really can’t face full fur, the humble pom pom is your friend. You could get a keychain to hang on your handbag…

River Island - £6

River Island – £6

Or how about a pair on your shoes…?

Topshop - £28

Topshop – £28

So, have you been bitten by the faux fur bug yet? If so, what did you buy? Let me know in the usual way. I may have bought, ahem, one or two things in the course of putting together this post…. 10 points if you guess correctly!

OMG. It’s an outfit post.

It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these, hasn’t it? I’d also forgotten that you need to take about 60 photos in order to get one where you look only slightly mentally subnormal.

Anyway, this outfit was a bit of a rush job (*someone* overslept) but I was quite pleased with it so I thought I’d share.photo

Outfit:

Jumper – Uniqlo (men’s)
Jeans – Topshop
Slippers – Charles Philip Shanghai (faintly similar here)
Bag  – Gucci

Back in the saddle

Hello strangers, long time no see

I appreciate this is entirely my fault, but life has changed significantly chez TMT and I hope to be doing a lot more blogging over the next few months. Yeah, yeah, I hear you dry, you’ve heard it all before, but this time I genuinely might pull it off. Why? Because I’ve taken a year out from corporate life and am currently a full time SAHM for the next year. My progeny have started school and pre-school respectively this week and trying to synchronise the three different types of childcare I’d need to be able to work was giving me a panic attack and as I am fortunate enough to have the option, I thought I’d do it myself. SO, there probably will be a bit less workwear, though I’ll still be featuring it (I need a kick-ass RTW wardrobe, don’t I?) but hopefully more content as a whole.

ANYWAY, enough of my mithering (autocorrect changed that to mothering, how apt) and on to what we’re all really interested in – fashion. While I might not have been posting, I’ve certainly been shopping, so I’ll start with a few of my recent wardrobe additions and what I thought of them.

First up, I had a bit of a spree at Baukjen. They are so on it this season, I found myself saying the other day that I just wanted to move into the catalogue!

Henfield Bandeau Top - £49

Henfield Bandeau Top – £49

I bought this top simply because I love the way it is styled on the website – easy, simple and chic. I would advise sizing down; I got the small and really I think I could have done with the XS as, while it’s in no danger of falling down, I would still prefer it a little tighter. I wore it recently with ripped jeans and bright pointy flats and felt really good in the ensemble.

Weston Jumpsuit - £99

Weston Jumpsuit – £99

This jumpsuit is so comfortable it should be illegal. I wore this on a night out at a club and felt like I was wearing my pyjamas. It was so simple to style as well – statement necklace and zebra print heels – I was good to go. It was also great to wear the next day with my high tops when ruinously hungover. Unlike a lot of jumpsuits, this one is really flattering on the bum. I got an 8 which is a perfect fit.

Wrap Belt – £69

The last item I picked up was this gorgeous obi style wrap belt. I won’t lie, this is significantly more than I would normally spend on a belt but I fell in love and have worn it a lot. I’ve found it really useful for work, perfect for brightening up a waitress style white shirt, black pencil skirt combo, or lovely over a black or navy dress. I’ve also worn it over a black blazer and cami in the evening with skinny jeans. I would say that it is one size, so while it looks similar on me to the model (I have a 24in waist, shame about the thighs and arse) if you had a bigger waist you may not get the same effect.

Another wardrobe hero I have to mention is this Jigsaw cami:

Silk Camisole - £39

Silk Camisole – £39

It actually looks a lot better on the Jigsaw website (this picture is from the John Lewis site as Jigsaw don’t seem to be Mac friendly), but this cami has been worth it’s weight in gold. I searched high and low for a nice SILK cami with adjustable straps and finally found this. I love it and wear it a lot. Good work Jigsaw!

Another high street hero comes in the form of these jeans:

Bleach Wash New Baxter Jeans - £40

Bleach Wash New Baxter Jeans – £40

I’m normally a bit of a premium denim junkie but I found myself in Topshop trying on a load of jeans and I have to say I was really impressed. These came home with me and I have been really happy with them. They hold their shape really well and are (I think) really quite flattering for a pale wash. Only slight gripe is that they were obviously made for something taller as the rips come a little below my knees but that’s not really Topshop’s fault!

I’ve suddenly developed a real shirt addiction. Luckily Uniqlo have a really splendid collection of shirts to feed my habit without bankrupting me totally.

Denim Long Sleeve Shirt - £19,90

Denim Long Sleeve Shirt – £19,90

Everyone needs a denim shirt, right? Well this is a great one to have, good thick fabric in a lovely dark wash.

Silk Sleeveless Blouse - £29.90

Silk Sleeveless Blouse – £29.90

I’ve been wanting a black sleeveless shirt for a while. To get it in silk for under £30 was the icing on the cake. Tremendous.

Ines Cotton Twill Long Sleeve Shirt - £29.90

Ines Cotton Twill Long Sleeve Shirt – £29.90

This white shirt is from the Ines de la Fressange collection and is really lovely. It is quite long, just covers my bum, slightly oversized and mannish with lovely shaping to the shirt-tails. The fabric is soft and thick. Very pleased indeed. I got a size S in all of these Uniqlo shirts.

Continuing my shirt frenzy with something slightly more expensive, ahem, I attended the opening of the Sloane Square branch of J.Crew on Tuesday evening, where I snapped up this:

Flannel Shirt - £89.50

Flannel Shirt – £89.50

I wouldn’t normally drop this on a cotton shirt but the colours and cut are beautiful and I know I will wear it a lot. Sizing is typically generous, I got a UK 6 and event that is relatively roomy.

Now, I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t have a handbag to include in this little line up.

Gucci Soho Disco Bag - £570

Gucci Soho Disco Bag – £570

Terrible picture on the Gucci site – will take my own and upload at some point as this doesn’t do it justice! I have to admit, this purchase was fuelled by three bottles of Rioja after a very boozy lunch on Bank Holiday Monday. Note to self, do not drink within walking distance of Selfridges. Anyway, I’m glad I got her as she is such lovely leather and fills the little navy bag shaped hole in my life quite snugly.

The last item on my list of recent acquisitions, I’m still waiting for. HURRY UP DHL!

Rockstud textured-leather point-toe flats - £575

Rockstud textured-leather point-toe flats – £575

Today is my fourth wedding anniversary and these little beauties are my present. Off out for dinner tonight and hoping to wear them – apparently an £8 delivery charge means nothing. Sigh.

Anyway, that completes my round-up of recent purchases. What do you think? Any clangers in there? I’ll be back soon with my A/W wish list…

I’m bored

So, I’m bored with ‘The Challenge’. Not the saving or wearing different outfits daily, I’m getting on swimmingly with that – more the oppression of trying to blog it every single day.

The reality is that I am just too busy in my work and home life and actually I feel that I could be offering much more interesting content on the blog, so I thing a return to form is order. I’ll still be posting outfit shots, but probably not daily, and I’ll be bringing back the Lust List, Review and Trend posts. If there are any strong objections do let me know, but I am so immensely tired of seeing photos in myself in the same pose that I’m sure you must be too!!

Anyway, here a couple of those photos from the past week:

20130914-080153.jpg

Outfit:

Cardigan – Boden
Top – Majestic
Jeans – Topshop
Scarf – Maje
Boots – Aldo

One of my favourite trends for this season is Grunge, mainly because I was doing it anyway. Basically stick on a bit of plaid and some biker boots and you’re good to go!

20130914-080220.jpg

Outfit:

Dress – Laura Ashley
Tights – Falke
Shoes – Michael Kors

A new acquisition here, bought with my voucher from the Laura Ashley press day. I absolutely LOVE this dress. You can’t really see but the pattern is a sort of mock-croc print and the burgundy colour is delicious. It is also probably the most comfortable dress I have ever worn in my life. They are currently running a 25% off event, which I highly recommend you check out, as they’ve had a great season.

20130914-080227.jpg

Outfit:

Jumper – Gap
Skirt – M&S
Tights – Falke
Shoes – Boden
Necklace – Alex Monroe

The necklace is sort of new. I received it as a wedding anniversary gift last year, but lost it within a few months, which I was very sad about. My lovely husband has repeat bought it for my this year which was sweet of him. I promise not to lose this one!

20130914-080240.jpg

Crikey, I look about 108 in these photos! Luckily I have 2 weeks off now to recover from what has been a very stressful phase of my professional life. Expect a shiny, happy, chilled out blogger from now on!

C150 – an apology

I know I’ve been beyond crap at posting my daily outfits. I sound like a broken record, but I have been so busy with work it has all fallen by the wayside a bit.

But I’m getting back on the wagon and starting afresh. I haven’t taken a photo every day over my week long blogging hiatus, but I haven’t repeated an outfit. You’ll just have to trust me on that. Here are a few photos from the last few days:

Day 34

20130901-162505.jpg

Outfit:

Sweatshirt – James Perse
Jeans – J Brand
Shoes – Bloch via TK Maxx

I’m not usually a wearer of pale pink, but I’m reliably informed that it is the colour to be seen in this A/W. I can’t commit to a saccharine sweet cocoon coat, so my concession to the trend is to dig out these Blochs I’ve had for a couple of years but rarely wear. It actually makes a nice accent colour for grey and navy.

Day 35

20130901-162540.jpg

Outfit

Jumper – Gap
T – Shirt – Gap
Jeans – Uniqlo
Loafers – Topshop

One of the best things about doing this challenge is rediscovering forgotten favourites. I don’t know about you, but I tend to wear my new items on repeat until the next flavour of the month comes along. I’ve had these jeans for longer than I’ve been with my husband, and I still really like them!

Day 39

20130901-191724.jpg

Outfit:

Jumper – Rag & Bone
Jeans – Gap
Boots – New Look

This outfit is composed entirely of ‘mistakes’. The jumper is £145 worth of viscose nightmare, it creases easily and snags on everything – not the great buy I had hoped it would be. The jeans are Gap sexy boyfriend and are just a size too big really so are rarely worn. The boots are fine, but tan really isn’t my colour. All together they don’t look too bad, but this look won’t make it into my C150 hall of fame!

Day 40

20130901-191758.jpg

Outfit:

Top – Topshop
Jeans – Goldsign
Shoes – Topshop

I wasn’t sure about these ‘cold-shoulder’ style tops initially, but my husband really likes me to show off my shoulders so I thought I’d try one and it went down a storm. I don’t generally ‘dress to please my man’, but sometimes it’s nice to make an effort (especially when, like this, it basically takes no effort at all!)

Oh, and it’s Sunday, isn’t it? So I owe you a bag…20130901-194028.jpg
The Baylee is the newest bag from the Chloe stable which counts the Marcie, Paraty and Paddington among its success stories. I think they’ve scored another hit here too – how gorgeous does it look with this monochrome outfit!?

20130901-194045.jpg
Sorry it’s taken me so long to catch up – I’ll be back with another outfit post tomorrow.

C150 – Day 18 – 21

Oops, I’m lagging a bit aren’t I? Let’s play catch up!

Day 18
20130813-201952.jpgThis Boden pocket Breton has had so much wear since I bought it – it goes with everything! I love it with my leopard loafers, spots and stripes are among my favourite pattern clashes!

Outfit:

Top – Boden
Jeans – Topshop Jamies
Shoes – Jimmy Choo

Day 19
20130813-202009.jpgI’m not sure my J Brand Earhart trousers are the most flattering in my wardrobe, but when you’ve known comfort like it you cannot turn your back. I wore this for a hungover trip to the dentist, so I needed cosseting!

Outfit:

Top – Uniqlo
Trousers – J Brand Earhart
Sandals – Sam Edelman

Day 20
20130813-202030.jpgI chanced upon these grey Goldsign Virtuals in the clearance section of the Harvey Nichols sale a couple of months back. I already have the mid blue and the indigo as you know from my repeated wears, so this was serendipity at play. I really like them with my bright pink boots!

Outfit:

T-Shirt – Mango
Jeans – Goldsign
Boots – Boden

Day 21
20130813-203812.jpgI wore this outfit for a trip to the zoo, hence the zebra shoes! I’m having a serious zebra love-in at the moment – had you noticed?

Outfit:

Top – James Perse
Jeans – Topshop Jamie
Shoes – Topshop
Scarf – Maje
