Things what I bought in the sales

So January is FINALLY over, I’ve been paid (thank god) and I’m ready to embrace the new season. Sorry you’ve not seen much of me lately – I’ve come good on my New Year’s Resolution to do more exercise and have been out running pretty much every spare minute of my day.

So, what have a bought in the sales? Well beside a lot of neon running gear, which I’ll spare you the sight of, quite a bit actually…

You’ve seen these already, the Isabel Marant Bennett wedge high top:

These are already proving their worth and have been worn many times. They tick all the boxes for me. A good buy!

Zoe Karssen ‘Homme’ hoodie:

20140131-125104.jpgI’m wearing this as we speak. I picked it up half price in the Matches sale and I love it. So comfy while being fitted and still slightly edgy so I don’t feel like a total slob.

Hobbs Lulu dress:

20140131-125513.jpg

I’d been stalking this dress for a while and when it dropped to £50 I bagged it. A great work basic.

Jewel of Liberty silk scarf:

20140131-125758.jpgSometimes an item just speaks to you. I spotted this scarf when I was mooching in Liberty just before Christmas and I just fell in love. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, that’s for sure, but I’ve never liked tea anyway. I got it at half price which I was very pleased about. I’ve worn it a few times air hostess style but I’m looking for inspiration to tie it in other ways if anyone has an idea!

Me&Em Ruched Cowl Neck Dress

Me&EmI have the short sleeved version of this dress in navy and it has been so useful that I couldn’t resist the forest green long-sleeved version. I’ve said it before but these dresses feel as close to wearing your pyjamas to work as possible – perhaps I shouldn’t be so pleased about that, but in my world comfort is king!

James Perse Tank Dress

20140101-122717.jpg

I’ve shown you my James Perse dress before, but I am so pleased with this one, it really is a ‘take you anywhere’ dress with the right accessories – not bad for £50.

Dune Nins boots

Dune NiinsThese were a bit of an impulse buy while roaming the Selfridges sale. They have a very definite look of the Rag & Bone Newburys but were about a tenth of the price. I’m finding them very useful on evenings out when I want to look a bit glam but can’t face cold feet (i.e. 9 months of the year).

Comptoir des Cotonniers wedge boots

Comptoir

Irritatingly these boots are now cheaper than they were when I bought them, but I have had so much wear out of them I can’t begrudge £20. They are fabulously French chic and easy on the feet. What’s not to like?

Charles Phillip Slippers

CPSAnother buy you already know about, my fab tartan slippers. Impractical and a bit ridiculous, these make me happy every time I look at my feet!

Rich and Skinny jeans

R&S

These jeans were a lucky TK Maxx find. I always find my best buys in their clearance section which either means I have hideous taste and am hopelessly deluded or that the general public are less appreciative than I. I prefer the latter option. These may have knocked my Goldsign Virtuals off the top of my jeans hierarchy – they are so flattering. There were a few different Rich and Skinny styles in my local branch, so could be worth a look.

Dr Denim solitaire jeggings

Dr DenimI needed black jeans and I was all ready to spring for some premium denim but was struggling to find what I wanted. I know my favourites The Dressing Room stock this label, and Deryane the manager knows her stuff, so I thought I’d give the Solitaire jeggings a whirl. I’m really glad I did! When they arrived they were TINY. I genuinely didn’t think an actual human could wear them, but man, do they stretch. The rise on these is high, as in up to my navel, but I love that as there is zero danger of flashing my pants. They keep their shape remarkably well and for £30, I’m made up.

C150 – Day 4

This is the sort of ‘warts and all’ photo I would never normally post, but in the interests of adhering to the Challenge, here it is:

20130726-102804.jpg

Outfit:

T-shirt – Zoe Karssen
Shorts – Uniqlo x Velvet
Flippers – Havaianas

This is about as casual as I get. Today my itinerary consists of cleaning, washing, legging it ’round Tesco and the park, so forgive me for not making more of an effort for such an exciting sequence of events. As the t-shirt says, ‘I’m so rock n’ roll right now’.

Back tomorrow with what I promise will be a much more interesting outfit!

Holiday Capsule Wardrobe – Day 3 & 4

Day 3

Outfit:

Vest – Helmut Lang via the Outnet
Jeans – Goldsign high-rise Virtual in Owena
Trainers – Converse
Scarf – Chan Luu at Net a Porter
Bracelet – Chan Luu via the Outnet

Bit of a random outfit, this one. I was wearing the jersey cardigan but got so hot from cycling and swimming I took it off but inexplicably left the scarf!

Day 4

Outfit:

Shirt – Gap
Top – American Vintage
Track Pants – Zoe Karssen at the Outnet
Trainers – Converse
Ring – Saint Laurent
Bracelet – Chan Luu via the Outnet

Here I reused the shirt from Day 2 and the track pants from Day 1, mixing in a white long sleeved tee. I’ve not worn this combo before, and I actually really like it! Back tomorrow with the final day of the Holiday Wardrobe experiment where things didn’t quite go to plan…

So, here we are, day one of my little wardrobe challenge. Excuse the general dishevellement of hair and lack of make-up; I have spent the morning frantically hunting for various specific pairs of Spiderman pants, shouting at a bewildered husband and explaining to a three-year old why, actually, bringing a 3ft car transporter lorry on a long car journey isn’t a good idea!

Hanging out

Feeling a little fragile today after a night on the sauce for Mr TMT’s birthday. I’ll spare you the details but suffice to say I ended up belting out Cher in a karaoke bar. Needless to say, comfort was definitely the order of the day when I crawled out of bed this morning.

This is about as close to a pretty pastel ensemble as you’ll find me in. I don’t really do ‘girly’, which I think of as synonymous with pastels, but I spotted this tee while browsing the Outnet, and as I love these muscle tees, I couldn’t resist.

I’ve paired it with another great Outnet find, Zoe Karssen leopard-print track pants, a pair of pale pink Superga, and possible the oldest item in my wardrobe; my trusty denim jacket. Bought from Calvin Klein in Los Angeles over 10 years ago, it has been serving me faithfully every summer since. I think it has aged pretty well, and now has a great beaten-up (think the technical term is distressed) look to it.

Another quality shot taken by my husband, nicely grazing the top of my head, and believe me, this was the best of a very bad lot, where i looked by turns smug and mentally subnormal.

So, what are you planning on wearing tomorrow, possibly the hottest day of the year (I’d say so far, but the way things have been I might be tempting fate…)?

My Basics – part 3

As you’ve probably gathered by now, my off-duty look is very casual. I have to be smart and tailored at work, which isn’t really my natural state of being, so I like to embrace my true style on my days out of the office. If there is one category in my wardrobe I really couldn’t live without, it’s the sweatshirt

Be they graphic, embellished or plain old grey marl, I just cannot get enough. And as luck would have it, for me anyway, my old faithfuls are enjoying a bit of a renaissance at present.

So, without further ado, let me present a rundown of my top 10. It’s like Top of the Pops, only with less Jayne Middlemiss…

In at 10 we have this Vero Moda Letter A Sweat, £22. I must admit to buying this one, but hey – leopard print, grey marl and my initial? Would have been rude not to…

At 9 we have a bit of 80s nostalgia in the shape of this BOY London Eagle Sweatshirt, £55. I’ve had my eye on one of these for a while, but am wondering if I’m cool enough to pull it off. The old adage about remembering it the first time around springs to mind…

At number 8, this Zara Baroque print sweater, £25.99. The elaborate silver design looks so opulent, and I love the simplicity of the styling. A sweatshirt like this doesn’t need anything more than a pair of white jeans.

Topshop Clean Neoprene Sweat

In at 7 we have this Topshop clean neoprene sweatshirt, £32. Now this to me has Celine written all over it. Minimal and futuristic, perfect for S/S 2013. I’m seeing it with a black jersey pencil skirt and flat silver sandals.

H&M Sweatshirt

I’ve always said I wanted to cater for a range of budgets, so at number 6 we have a fantastic value offering from H&M. Can you believe this one is just £3.99? I think I might buy one, get handy with a few rhinestones and add an embellished neckline!

Tibi Star-Print Sweatshirt

Number 5 brings us this gorgeous Tibi Star Print Sweatshirt, £134. An alternative to my lobster version the starfish design adds a bit of interest to a plain grey sweat.

Whistles Taylor Animal Print Sweat

Another recent purchase of mine at number 4, the Whistles Taylor Animal Print Sweatshirt, £65. I like the abstract print and the combination of black and navy. I’ll be wearing it with cropped jeans and neon orange sandals.

Topshop Embroided Tiger Knit Sweat

Number 3 has my name written all over it. I have been smitten with Tiger sweatshirts even since last season’s Kenzo. I made it onto the waitlist for this years version, but sadly it sold out before reaching me. This Topshop Embroidered Tiger Sweat, £45, could be a really good substitute though!

Mango Snake Print Jersey

Oh number two, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways… This snake print jumper is so great it had me emailing customer services the second I saw the lookbook. It has finally popped up on the website, and the only question for me now is how many animal print sweatshirt is too many?

Zoe Karssen Born Wild Sweatshirt

And finally, at the top of the chart is this fabulous Zoe Karssen sweatshirt. I love their clothing, it is edgy, well made and a joy to wear. I can’t wait to style this one with leather leggings and wedge trainers.

So, what do you think of the sweatshirt trend? Lazy loungewear or casual cool? Do let me know…
